The beaches of Phu Quoc Island:

Bai Sao - paradise beach in Phu Quoc?

Are you dreaming of heaven on earth and the travel agency told you that he is in Bai Sao? Do not be fooled - the beach is cool, but quite on the bounty. Many call it the best beach in Phu Quoc and in all of Vietnam, but we do not think so.

Tourists are brought to the center of the beach. These are predominantly Vietnamese and Chinese - social creatures, where they all flounder in the water in one heap.

To the right, towards the stones, there is an almost deserted beach, and it is not so clean there. Only single couples come here. The left side is more habitable: there are cafes, hotels, they sell fruit. Near the restaurant "Paradiso" - slender palm trees leaning towards the water. Most of the Chinese live here: who will miss a photo shoot in fluttering chiffon dresses on a romantic swing?

But even on the "best" beach in Vietnam, you will see a landfill. The Vietnamese do not pay attention to the garbage. Why export? We just throw it into the bushes.

We were very lucky: on the beach we did not find an abundance of sunbeds, inflatable trampolines, jet skis, boats and other activities. They did not understand why they were not there, because they wrote something else on the Internet. Get away from tourists, it will be quiet. But rubbish! In general, I liked the beach, but there was a feeling of annoyance after visiting. We did not return to Bai Sao again and we cannot call it the best beach in Fukuoka.

But enough about the cons. Here are the pros of the beach: clear water, fine white sand, very gentle entrance (good for small children), picturesque nature, almost privacy, there are rudiments of infrastructure (resorts, cafes and restaurants, paid showers and even a free toilet).

How to get there. A taxi costs 300-400,000 VND, but it is cheaper and more interesting to rent a bike (150,000 VND per day). There are also excursions. The distance from the main Long Beach is approximately 25 km.

So you went to the beach. Two roads lead to Bai Sao: one to the south of the beach (behind the stones) - and here is a real dump. The other - to the civilized part. Both roads are concreted. The second is very narrow, they can hardly drive apart on it. As a result - traffic jams. The Vietnamese, in their favorite manner, simply did not finish the last section of the road 500 meters long.

Hotels on Bai Sao Beach

There are resorts and guesthouses on Bai Sao Beach, but for some reason they are not presented in online booking systems. On Roomguru.ru we found only My Lan Guesthouse and The Beach House An Thoi (right by the sea) - such things. And on Booking.com there are hotels further away - Phu Nam House and Hanh Mai Hotel.

Long Beach - the most comfortable beach in Phu Quoc

Connoisseurs of convenience will love Long Beach. Probably 95% of the hotels of the entire island are concentrated along the beach! You can find food without getting up from the sunbed - more precisely, she will find you herself. In addition to peddlers, there are many cafes both on the beach and along the road.

Many scold the beach - they say, it is dirty and noisy. We didn't observe anything like that. Let's just say: the beach is the most ordinary, it does not cause emotions. Yellow sand, clear water. There are no waves, the sunset is gentle.

Minuses: although the beach is municipal, some hotels do not allow you to settle on their territory - they drive you away. Plus there is little shade, and the beach strip is very narrow. There are few civilized outlets to the sea - you either need to go around, or fight or secretly go through the resorts (but almost always the guards will prevent you). As you can see, there are many inconveniences - this beach cannot be called the best in Fukuoka either.

Hotels on Long Beach in Phu Quoc

Long Beach has such a variety of hotels and resorts that it's hard to choose. Many tours are sold in hotels on Long Beach.

  • The Hill Resort 3*. Nice new hotel. There is a pool, breakfast, quiet. The price is $40.
  • Miana Resort 2*. Garden hotel. The best of all where we lived in Fukuoka. Cozy bungalows surrounded by flowers. Outdoor bathroom, large swimming pool, royal breakfasts. The price is $42.
  • Cozy Resort. Spacious bungalows surrounded by plants. There is no pool. The price is $25.
  • Sailing Hotel 2*. Cozy breakfast hotel with 70's style rooms. The price is $25.

Rush Vem - the most beautiful beach in Fukuoka!

Bãi Rạch Vẹm- this is a beach with starfish, which are countless here. This is what we consider the most beautiful and impressive in Fukuoka, this is the best beach on the island! There is unusually white and fine sand. From such beauty, we were stunned and constantly photographed the beach.

Rush Vem is more suitable for admiring nature and watching starfish than for a beach holiday in the traditional sense. There is no infrastructure here, except for one seafood restaurant on the water. The stretch of beach suitable for recreation is narrow and small. The sea is shallow. There is almost no shade - only 4-5 pavilions and one shed (former cafe). Therefore, there are very few people!

Probably, we would give the title of a paradise beach to Rush Vem. Just do not go to the left side, so as not to be disappointed :)

There are many pluses. Here are the cons: about 5 km to the beach - dusty and bumpy dirt road. There is no infrastructure! For inexpensive food, you need to go to the track - take food with you.

Where is it located and how to get there. You can get to the beach with starfish in Phu Quoc by taxi or bike along the highway to the north of the island - use MAPS.ME to navigate. Don't miss the huge sign with a photo of the beach. A valiant Vietnamese woman stands nearby and sends everyone to the beach. If you go straight, you will come to a picturesque fishing floating village, which we also recommend visiting.

Bai Thom

Bai Thơm- another beach with starfish in Fukuoka. It is not at all as impressive as Rash Vem, and is almost not suitable for swimming. The sand is yellow. At low tide, you can see marine life: clams, starfish, crabs, some corals. There is no infrastructure, except for a cafe. Come to that section of the beach that is near the island - the rest of the parts are terrible.

Bai Khem

To the beach Bai Khem leads two roads: one through the chic Marriott 5 * hotel, where only guests are allowed, the other through the forest. Only locals come here. When we were on the beach, a cheerful company of Vietnamese was walking, there were many children.

The beach is not equipped, there is nowhere to spread a towel. The sand is yellow. A lot of trash. But the beach area near the hotel is well-maintained and clean - after all, a five-star resort!

Duong Dong beach

This beach is next to the lighthouse. We do not recommend swimming here - the port is nearby. Although the locals do not disdain. People come to the pier to eat and watch the sunset.

Phu Quoc Island is just beginning its large-scale tourism development, yes, it is not a completely wild place here, but it can hardly be called fully developed either. This is how it can attract the attention of travelers who want to see the untouched beauty of wild tropical nature and bask in the sun on half-empty beaches, sometimes even with white sand. Phu Quoc is an island located in the south of Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand.

Great place for a beach holiday in our winter. Here, from the end of November to April, beautiful weather prevails for a measured beach holiday. You should not go here from May to October. The sea during this period becomes exciting. And streams of water pour from the sky, which at a certain period fill the streets of the city and you almost have to swim along them. It looks like this. In this article I will tell you about the beautiful and deserted beaches of Fukuoka Island, where in some places there is even white sand. Sometimes even like from an advertisement for a bounty chocolate bar.

  • Phu Quoc Island's main beach is Long Beach it is along it that the bulk of all hotels, cafes, restaurants, and shops are located, and all other beaches need to be reached around the island by bike or taxi.
  • Seas in season (November to April) mostly calm in the west, warm, clean - a great place for a quiet beach holiday. Sandy gentle entry into the sea. Convenient place to stay with children.
  • The scorching sun can ruin your vacation, if on the first day you go swimming from 11 am to 2 pm without any sunscreen or cape, but even with protection at this time, it is better not to appear in the sun. With swimming, it is better not to overdo it, because the sun reflects even more strongly from the water. Sunset is approaching around 6:00 pm.
  • In many Asian countries, beach fleas and flies are found on the beaches., but do not be alarmed, their bites can be avoided if you follow the simplest rules. Lie on a bed or sun lounger. Stand on the wet sand in the waves. Move, when walking, they will not have time to bite you, fleas are very lazy creatures. Zhenya wrote an article about flea and insect bites, where he tells what local ointments can help relieve itching, if you are still bitten -
  • All beaches are urban and they do not belong to hotels, know this if you are not allowed to go to the sea. There are, of course, expensive hotels with a closed area through which the guards may not let you pass. However, no one can forbid you to walk along the beach. The phrase "Call policy" (call the police) - acts on them soberingly if you walk along the beach, and do not break into the main gate of the hotel
  • To find these beaches on the ground, get a SIM card where the Internet will be. Which SIM card and what tariffs to buy in Fukuoka. Use Google map, which marked almost all the beaches of the island.

I wanted to post a separate video for each beach, but I decided that it would be better to give a link to the playlist:

BeachLongBeach(long beach)

This beach is located on the western side of the island. Basically, most of the hotels in Fukuoka were built in close proximity to it. It is here that the whole tourist life of the island takes place, there are many cafes, restaurants, shops. This is the main densely populated beach of the island. There are a lot of people with. Tourists, service personnel, hotels, the river carrying out city garbage - all this is not good for cleanliness.

Long Beach is quite long with a gentle sandy entrance. The sand on it is yellow, in some places the beach is narrow due to the buildings of different hotels close to the sea. The length of the beach, according to various sources, is from 10 to 15 km. Now Long Beach is divided into many small beaches. For example, the well-known golden sand beach, episode, sunset beach - this is all one Long Beach.

In the high season, with the influx of tourists, between December and February, biting plankton breeds in Fukuoka water. The reaction to it in people is different: from light biting, to allergic reactions. It is not possible to predict the reaction in advance, but in most cases itching disappears 5-10 minutes after leaving the sea. But plankton does not always happen, which is very pleasing.

Sun loungers in most places in Fukuoka are paid, saw the price of 100 dong (300 rubles) for one day, and it's free if you live in a hotel on the beach. Comparing with Cambodia, this is a little expensive, because. there, the price for a sun lounger on the beach was equivalent to buying something in a cafe, it could even be water for $ 1.

Episode and Golden Sand Beach - part of Long Beach

Since Long Binch is very long (not for nothing it was called that), some parts of it cannot be seen without a vehicle (scooter or taxi). Since 2017, the northern part of the beach (right on the territory of the Sanset Sonato hotel) has become famous for its new project Episode. Here you can see the remains of art objects created by the builders of Kazantip and partially destroyed by Episode. Access to the beach is paid, but you can go by water from the Golden Sand Beach bar, as, I remind you the entire coastline of Fukuoka is urban and cannot be private!

Beach episode coordinates on google map: https://goo.gl/maps/65NJeFb41XK2

Episode boasts amazing buildings that have already become a new attraction in Fukuoka. They can be seen and captured on the camera, and completely free of charge, you just need to get there. And to argue a little with the guards, proving that 30 meters of the beach in Vietnam is a public place and cannot be a private area.

Unfortunately, these fish are no more - they were demolished with some other objects.

Right behind the fence from the Episode, there is another interesting beach with an old Zhiguli and many objects for an unusual photo session. This is one of the places in Fukuoka with free sun loungers. This Golden Sand Beach- golden sand beach Cafes, music and a great place to meet the sunset:

Finding a beach on a Google map is also not difficult: https://goo.gl/maps/Pj6hgrnULY92

Also quite a nice place with beach parties - This is Sunset Beach. There is a bar of the same name on it, where performances of Vietnamese and foreign DJs are held daily. The prices in the bar are slightly higher than the average city prices, but quite normal for the beach. Free sun loungers and relaxed atmosphere

Bai Sao Beach (Sao Beach orBaiSao)

To Bai Sao beach you need to go to the south of the island, from the city of Zuong Dong about 20-25 km. You can rent a scooter, you can take a taxi (by the way, a taxi costs 8,000-10,000 VND for 1 km). The main road leading to it is of good quality, only the last 2 km at the exit is a completely bad dirt road. It was very inconvenient to ride a bike because of the piled stones, and taxi drivers, buses were constantly overtaking and raising dust. Therefore, if you go there once, just to see the beach, it is better to choose a taxi, but if difficulties do not scare you, then:

The first impression of the beach is amazing:

  • straight eyes cuts from the snow-white sand
  • blue bay (everything as in advertising)
  • palm trees with hanging swings

I have never seen such a beautiful beach.

Coordinates of Bai Sao beach in Phu Quoc on Google maps: https://goo.gl/maps/wjY3ppYMjXN2

However, upon closer inspection, Bai Sao Beach is not at all deserted. There are several hotels on it and guests are sunbathing on sun loungers. Other tourists constantly come from different parts of the island to see and capture the beauty of the beach. Therefore, the photo on the swing turns into a small queue, because everyone wants a great shot on such an amazing beach. By the way, you will be charged 20,000 VND for the swing, but you can do without extortion.

There is some debris in the bushes between the hotels and in the tidal wave, which greatly spoils the view. The dirt is usually removed by hotel workers, but during the high season, the sea throws out new garbage daily. Perhaps you need to come to this beach early in the morning to enjoy the peace and tranquility. You can also go a little to the side or go to the neighboring Paradise beach - about it a little lower.

The sea seemed transparent due to the white sand, however, it was exciting that day. Also, our guys stayed to sunbathe in the shade, and they were badly bitten by midges.

We would not live here in the outskirts, except for a couple of hotels and cafes, there is nothing else here. There is no infrastructure, this is a place for a short relaxation and immersion in oneself, however, many residents of megacities strive for this, for a two-week solitude from the whole world. Here is a review recently left by guests of Bai Sao Beach in Fukuoka:

Firstly, the road is personally from us, and we are online - it costs about 500,000, and secondly, these most popular swings are paid, each for 20,000, while no one is around - of course you can take a picture quickly. But if you approach, a ton of negativity will fall on you, like “no, don’t sit here, you can’t sit here” and just almost force you out of there. The sea is dirty when you walk along the beach with diapers and dead fish under your feet. When you sit on the beach (and you can’t sit everywhere if you don’t take a sun lounger for 100,000), you are driven from a good place to a dirty one, where even an old toothbrush is lying on the sand. Small children walk around with garbage bags, they say, they collect garbage, and ask for money, like in Indian slums. In general, this, I don’t even have words

Paradiso Beach – Paradiso Restaurant

This is truly a heavenly beach. The beach is located next to the hotel. You can go through safely, leaving the bike in the parking lot - the cost is 100,000 dong. But with this money you can order a cocktail at the bar, so in fact it's just a deposit. Here is the same clean white sand, but unlike Bai Sao:

  • the beach is regularly cleaned here and very well cleaned
  • free swing
  • no beggars
  • clean shower and toilet

Bai Ong Lang (BaiOngLang)

The beach lies north of the town of Zuong Dong on the west coast of the island. There are also cafes and bars here; one cannot call it secluded, in some way it resembles Long Beach. However, all the beaches here are good and each in its own way.

Back in the 2018 season, it could be recommended for a quiet family holiday with children. But now there is construction almost everywhere in this area. Noisy. Some of the beaches were closed to guests. In general, the area is still better, as it is located above the river, so there is much less dirt in the water. Biting plankton also rarely appears here.

However, vacationers and guests of Phu Quoc Island also prefer neighboring beaches, such as the beach of the Mango Bay Hotel, where tourists are quietly let through. How is the beach enviably different from the city limits of Long Beach, where not every hotel welcomes guests

.

Bai Vung Bao

This beach is located north of the city of Zuong Dong, about 10-12 km., You can’t get there on foot, a taxi or a bike will help you with this. Having moved to him from the main road, we realized that he was far away, and the road was not very good, we had to shake on the gravel road and such red earth.
The hotels are located far from the beach, so there are not so many guests here, everyone comes, who is on what - scooters, taxis or bicycles.

At the same time, it is not crowded, there is one cafe on it with its own sun loungers and an offer to settle down with them and order something delicious, probably when ordering you will not be required to pay for the sun lounger itself. However, no one bothers to move to one side and sit in the shade of trees.

Bai Dai beachBai Dai Beach)

You can get to this beach without reaching the Vinperl water park, because. then everything is blocked off and closed by the park and the construction of the hotel before it. If you mark a point on the map and drive up, just to this construction site of a large hotel in front of the park, turn onto the paved road to the left (if you drive from Zuon Dong), along which you can get to the beach not so far.

Approaching the beach, we saw on the right hand the ennobled territory of some hotel, but there was no one on the left, however, builders began to arrive a little later, apparently from the same construction site, to swim and relax. Perhaps if you arrive there in the morning, then there will be no one else and you can sunbathe and swim as you please. The entry into the sea at the time of our arrival seemed very small, we had to go further away to swim, while trees grow on the shore, under which there is a shadow.

Bai Gang Dau (GanhDaubeach)

This beach is located in the upper part of the island on the northwest coast, from the city of Zuong Dong to go somewhere 27-29 km.

You drive straight along the road past a Vietnamese village and find yourself on this beach, it is quite small in size, there are many fishing boats, there is a cafe, but it was dirty with us, we didn’t stay on it, took a photo and left. From this beach you can see several islands of Cambodia, below in the photo you can see them in the distance. If you drive a little further, along the same road, you can see a Buddhist temple.

Beach coordinates on Google maps: https://goo.gl/maps/HDdsMqRuZoK2

Bai Rush Wem (BaiRachVem)

This is one of the most popular distant beaches. It is worth coming here to admire the beautiful starfish, of which there are quite a lot. Therefore, Starfish Beach has become a must-see during. Yes, and by taxi and bike, hundreds of tourists come every day to look at starfish. This is the second most famous beach of Phu Quoc Island (just behind Bai Sao).

Phu Quoc starfish beach coordinates on Google map: https://goo.gl/maps/PG5WDDXVL3U2

It is only better to go to the left along the beach, so that it is clean, because. when we arrived, we saw where the cafes were, it was very dirty. And when we moved a little further away, we were able to enjoy a stunning view of the sea, starfish, palm trees.

Bai Thom

This beach is about 36 km away. from the city of Zuong Dong to the northeast of the island, although there are cafes here, the beach itself seemed deserted. By the way, the Cambodian coast is also perfectly visible from here.

A great place to sunbathe in what my mother gave birth to and do all sorts of different pranks right from the shade under a palm tree. The main thing is not to forget to lie on a towel or a blanket, remember about fleas, I think they will be happy with your naked body on a deserted beach. Closer to the right end of the beach, you can walk along the bridge to the nearest island to admire the wildlife.

Bai Khem (Khembeach)

This beach is located on the southeast side of Phu Quoc Island. On the larger territory of this beach there is an expensive Marriot hotel, the minimum cost of a room in which per day will cost 27-30 tr. Security does not allow access to the beach through the hotel. Just, in our chat about Fukuoka, suggested that you can safely walk around the territory and along the beach for a deposit of $ 25. The deposit can be spent both in the bar and in the restaurant.

And if you want to get to the free part of the beach, you will have to leave the road and drive through the wild wilderness, but it's worth it, you can sunbathe and swim to your heart's content.

Beach coordinates on Google maps: https://goo.gl/maps/J5e4tmfEsaS2

And finally, the most beautiful sunset, of which there are an amazing number and you can admire them almost every day in the warm season.

Phu Quoc island is a real pearl of Vietnam. Tourists rush here in search of adventure and a relaxing holiday on the white sand. The main advantage of the island is its numerous beaches..

There is something to admire here, because the luxurious nature has not bypassed these lands. And thanks to the developed infrastructure, rest here promises to be eventful and unforgettable. When preparing to visit Phu Quoc Island, you need to decide which beach is better to stay on. However, each of them has a whole list of advantages, so during your vacation you can have time to visit them all.

Long Beach (Truong beach)

The main beach of Phu Quoc is called Long beach (also known as Truong beach) and is located on the west coast of the island, stretching 7 km south of Duong Dong. A peculiarity is the uneven distribution of vacationers - it is always crowded near hotels, but there are also secluded, truly wild corners where lovers of everything mysterious are worth a look.

There are many restaurants with national Vietnamese cuisine on the beach. The sand here is light yellow, medium-sized, the entrance to the sea is gentle, which is ideal for children. There are no waves in the morning, but in the late afternoon the wind intensifies. There are no stones on the beach, but marine life is present: you can easily find crabs and jellyfish. Long Beach is the cleanest beach in Phu Quoc. This is a great place for a romantic getaway - where, if not here, you can see off the sunsets? There is little entertainment, so the time spent here will be calm and carefree, no one will disturb you.

Bai Sao beach

The best beach in all of Vietnam called Bai Sao is located in the southeast of Phu Quoc island. It is still poorly equipped, although tourists can stay in one of several hotels; The signature restaurant is open throughout the day. There is fine white sand, charming palm trees, clear water, but there are still few travelers. Paradise place for a relaxing holiday - a real corner of the "Bounty". Today, the appearance of the beach is changing, sunbeds and entertainment infrastructure are appearing. Children are unlikely to like it here, as it will not be possible to actively organize leisure activities. The sea is not always calm, sometimes a real storm begins, but even in sunny weather the waves here are very large.

How to get to the beach

If you are coming from Duong Dong city, you need to get to Highway 46 (National Highway 46) and drive south for 25 minutes. After the bridge you will find yourself in the village of Bai Sao. You need to drive along it for another 3 kilometers, and at the large billboard with the inscription "7UP" turn left. After 8-10 minutes you will find yourself at a fork with three paths - two of them lead to hotels, and the third to a bar. However, on all three roads you can get to Bai Sao Beach.

Transport prices:

  • Taxi from the airport - 300,000 VND ($15)
  • Taxi from Duong Dong - 400,000 VND ($20)
  • Mini bus from Duong Dong – 40,000 VND ($2)
  • Moto taxi - 150,000 ($7.5).

Ong Lang Beach

For connoisseurs of attractions, Ong Lang Beach, 8 km long, is perfect. The cultural and historical heritage of Fukuoka is located on this shore, and the most inquisitive tourists are offered an excursion to the Fish Sauce Factory. There are many hotels on the beach, but this does not prevent you from finding a secluded paradise surrounded by banana and coconut palms.

The sandy shore, a gentle entrance to the sea and a developed entertainment infrastructure will appeal to every tourist. Here full of activities for lovers of water sports and boat trips to nearby islands.

How to get to Ong Lang

If you decide to stay at one of the hotels on Ong Lang Beach, you will most likely be able to arrange a transfer from Phu Quoc Airport. If you just want to visit this place, you need a road to the north, to Gan Dau.

Vung Bau beach

This beach is located in the northern part of the west coast of Phu Quoc. For fans of peace and tranquility, it is difficult to find the best place - tourists wander into these parts very rarely, so the romantic atmosphere is present here around the clock. There is a small restaurant on the beach, there is no entertainment infrastructure. Travelers who have been here say purity of water, mesmerizing landscapes and the presence of white sand. Even children will like it here thanks to the gentle entrance to the sea, but you will not be able to find sun loungers. And the garbage on the beach spoils the impression of the trip. And here the weather is very changeable, it is usually quiet in the morning, but by the afternoon the water surface ceases to be calm. See the location of Ong Lang on the map at the end of the article.

Dinh Cau Beach

Another small beach on the west coast, Dinh Cau, beckons travelers with crystal clear waters and golden sand. It is crowded, very beautiful and there is something to see. Local attractions include a night market and a colorful temple. There are small stones on the beach, the entrance to the sea, although gentle, is not very convenient for children. The presence of rocks virtually eliminates the possibility of surfing and other sports. But this beach is the only one in Phu Quoc where you can jump from a great height into the water. There are many restaurants here, and you can buy products in the market.

Ganh Dau Beach

For the most enthusiastic dreamers and lovers of romance, Ganh Dau Beach is open - a unique place for a relaxing holiday. It is located near the Vietnamese village and is not yet inhabited by tourists. Hotels are just beginning to be built here, and there is almost no entertainment. So no one will distract you from contemplation turquoise expanse of the sea, wonderful palm trees and amazing sunsets. The sand here is crystal clear, light yellow, the gentle entrance to the sea is very comfortable. Calm in the morning is a frequent phenomenon, but in the evening clouds can gather. As for food, only a small cafe works for guests; to taste the delicacies, you need to go to the city.

Bai Dai beach or Bai Dai beach

This beach is located in the northwest of Phu Quoc, between Vung Bau and Gan Dau beaches. Previously, he was considered one of the most "pristine" beaches in all of Vietnam, but now the situation is changing - the coastline is being built up with hotels and resorts. However, here you can find quiet corners, not yet touched by civilization.

For the most part, Bai Dai Beach is clean, covered with fine yellow sand. Due to the construction of large hotels, garbage can be found in some places, but this does not happen often. From Bai Dai Beach you can see Turtle Island, a popular diving and snorkeling destination.

The sea is warm here, and the water has many shades of green and blue. The descent into the water is smooth, and the current is small or completely absent - according to tourists, this beach is well suited for families with children.

As with other western beaches of Phu Quoc, Bai Dai offers stunning sunsets. Nearby is the Vinpearl amusement park (), where both children and adults can have fun.

Fukuoka beaches on the map

We have marked all the beaches of Phu Quoc Island on the map below. To turn on the display of only objects of interest to you, use the menu button in the upper left corner of the map.

The first rainy days of November again made me dream of a bygone summer. In moments of such moods, I always do something extraordinary, for example, remind the management of the accumulated days off and demand to let me go to the land of the warm sun and gentle sea.

My work does not allow me to go on vacation in the summer, so my destiny is a beach holiday in the southern tropical countries. For the past few years, my friend and I have been basking in the sun in the hospitable and exotic Vietnam at the end of autumn. So why change your habits.

The bliss of fashionable and well-inhabited hotels has already been well studied by us. I wanted to add a couple of notes of extreme sports to the upcoming trip. Why not get acquainted with the still virgin corners of outlandish Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand region.

Our attention was drawn to one of the new areas of the tourism industry - the island of Phu Quoc. It is impossible to fully say about this southern territory of the country that a human foot has not set foot here yet. The enchanting tropical beauty of this corner attracts more and more tourists to their possessions. And yet the beaches of Fukuoka are still half empty, here you can spend a romantic vacation of a completely secluded nature.

Phu Quoc: which beach to choose?

We did not try our luck for serious strength and, for a start, booked a hotel near the most popular beach of the southern island - the sandy kingdom of Long Beach. The desired Long Beach is currently the center of the Phu Quoc tourist universe and the corner with the most developed infrastructure on the island.

As soon as the first snow falls timidly on the ground in the winter latitudes of our planet, the first fans of the “eternal” summer begin to gather on the velvet sandy beach. Neighbors in comfort next to us turned out to be 2 Russian families with kids of about 5-6 years old. I must say right away that the optimal choice for families with children of this particular beach is quite obvious.

On the very first day of rest, we were greeted by the warm sea and the gentle sun, the climatic conditions were very nice, and the gentle entry into the water towards the embrace of the sea gave bathing an additional charm.

The next day showed that the weather on the island has many faces. In the morning, the guide at the hotel was talking about the fact that the season of heavy rains and constant unrest at sea ended just a couple of weeks ago. The period of the year from May to mid-autumn is considered not quite a resort here. Often the shower from the rain streams is too dense, and the sea shows a recalcitrant character almost every day.

But today we were able to set a record for tanning, however, in the evening it became quite clear that it is better to earn a chocolate shade for the skin gradually. Henceforth, we stopped appearing in the sun after 11 am, and going to the beach after 2 pm only allowed ourselves in the company of sunburn remedies.

Long Beach Phu Quoc: opinions and doubts

© runnerone / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

After 3 days in Fukuoka, we summed up some preliminary results of our new discoveries:

  • Long Beach is not only the most important tourist beach in Fukuoka, but also the most equipped, and the longest, 20 km - this is no joke to you;
  • along the entire length of the territory, beach areas lie under the jurisdiction of the city administration, we managed to meet closed VIP zones only a couple of times;
  • the presence on different days of a completely different number of tourists on the beach turned out to be unpredictable, we decided to attribute this to the category of local mysteries;
  • Hiking trips along the beach area in both directions allowed us to find several completely deserted corners, which we took advantage of for skinny dipping;
  • framing the yellow silk of sand almost everywhere are sprawling coke palms, at the foot of which grows lush green grass;
  • reconnaissance of the northern part of the beach gave us wonderful finds in the form of a collection of Asian cafes and restaurants, here we paid unconditional tribute to the delights of hearty Vietnamese cuisine;
  • a densely populated network of mini-hotels, catering establishments, hotels and bars with soft drinks is located on the trajectory of the asphalt highway towards the city of Duong Dong.

Of the unpleasant discoveries, we noted the invasion of lazy, but rather annoying fleas. The occupation of the beaches of Vietnam is their favorite habitat. Ways to deal with impudent insects turned out to be unpretentious: beach fleas do not cross the boundaries of the mat, do not have time to attack while walking, and do not like wet sand. So we learned to deal with them pretty quickly.

Wai Bong Beach

One of the days of our stay in Vietnam, we decided to take a ride to Bai Vong Beach. We remember it because it was the first coastal zone of the island, to which we arrived on a passenger boat during the transfer from the mainland. Hotels in the Bai Wong beach area have not yet been built, but this area is predicted to be a tourist future. So far, the exotic corner is famous for its restaurants, which use fresh seafood to prepare culinary delights.

Marine lovers come to the beach to admire the riot of colors of jellyfish that abundantly populate shallow waters in calm weather. A close acquaintance with transparent creatures was not included in our plans, so we did not swim on Bai Wong Beach. But we paid tribute to a plentiful feast in one of the restaurants and we can respond with full responsibility to the skill of local culinary specialists.

The most beautiful beaches in Phu Quoc

If we make a conditional gradation of the numerous beaches of Fukuoka, then we recall the old story about a monkey that could not decide which relatives to join it: smart or beautiful. We do not undertake to call smart sandy estates of the island, we did not check them for this quality. But we will call some of them especially beautiful with complete confidence in our innocence. We visited some of these corners ourselves, others were told to us by the neighbors at the table in the restaurant of our hotel.

Bai Sao Phu Quoc Beach (aka Sao Beach or Bai Sao)

A haven of white sand, smoothly turning into small tropical groves. From the town of Zuong on the southeast coast of Phu Quoc, we traveled by taxi, briskly overtaking scooters and bikes of other tourists. The last 2 km of the total road of 25 km, we were glad more than once that we were going by car.

The picture of the beach that opens to the eye at the first moment plunges into complete shock from the magnificence seen. The turquoise bay contrasts with white sand, swings on palm trees bowed in a hospitable bow suggest oriental fairy tales.

Looking ahead, I can safely say that the photos from this place of riot of natural luxury turned out to be the most colorful. During the way back to our place of residence, we even argued that living on the island should have been chosen in this paradise oasis. The question is moot. Bai Sao is very popular with tourists from all over the world and you will definitely not find a quiet solitude there.

We can only report on the beauty of Bai Khem beach from hearsay. The Bai Khem region is under the control of the military units of Vietnam. Curious tourists are not favored here, few of the guests of Fukuoka can boast of a long stay in this area.

Ong Lang Phu Quoc Beach (Bai Ong Lang)

For tourists who prefer to stay in premium hotels, elite resorts near Ong Lang Beach are suitable. In the center of the western coast of the island, both fashionable accommodation facilities and their more modest ones gather around the shop.

The legendary Mango Bay Resort gathers on its territory lovers of tropical nature who appreciate a high level of service. Infrastructure is developed near the beach, similar in its content to Long Beach. Hotels and guest houses, bars, cafes and restaurants add to the charm of a tropical paradise and the overall package of beach pleasures.

Bai Bung Bao beach (Bai Vung Bau)

A nirvana for nudists and lovers of topless sunbathing has become a beach with an unusual shape, reminiscent of the half moon of Bai Bung Bao. Getting to the Bai Vung Bau property is not easy: a dirt road, 12 km on foot in the hot sun is not an option for this situation, the only salvation is local transport. The calm expanse of the sea surface, the high growth of thick grass, the pleasant velvet of snow-white sand grains are a gift to those who nevertheless decided to come here. There are many secluded glades on the beach, and cozy restaurants specializing in fish and seafood dishes are scattered along the territory.

Bai Dai Phu Quoc Beach, Vietnam (Bai Dai)

The neighbor of the previous beach from the north was Bai Dai beach. This section of the northwestern coast of the island is distinguished by a decent length, a special shade of turquoise sea waters, sandy shallow water - a safe area for those who are just learning to swim.

The road to the cult Vietnamese amusement park Vinperl became an important signpost for the road here. A little before reaching the legendary water park, we just ended up on the territory of Bai Dai Beach.

Having had plenty of fun in the shallow waters of Bai Dai Beach, we went to one of the nearest cafes and sat for a long time in the shady coolness of tropical plants with a cup of aromatic coffee and sandwiches with fish filling.

The beaches of Fukuoka, where there are the least people

Among the tourists there are many representatives who prefer to spend their holidays away from noisy entertainment and large crowds of people. Phu Quoc Island, like no other place on the planet, gives travelers interested in peace, such an opportunity. The island has a whole galaxy of deserted beaches that give shelter to lone travelers or small companies.

The Phu Quoc desert beach collection consists of several gems:

Bai Gan Dau Beach

Bai Gan Dau Beach is located at some distance from the main tourist trails in the north of the island. The prima facie of the area is the Peppercorn Beach Hotel. The magnificent Ganh Dau Beach hides its charms near one of the Vietnamese fishing villages. The easiest way to recognize the snow-white kingdom of sand on the shores of the blue sea possessions is by the accumulation of fishing equipment. In good weather, a series of Cambodian islands can be seen from the shore. In a remote region, there is a majestic temple built far from human eyes for solitary prayers to the Buddha.

Bai Rash Vem

Bai Rush Vem Beach is known in tourist circles as a habitat for colorful starfish. The appearance of the corner is similar to many other Phu Quoc beach spots, and only seasoned travelers know the secret of Bai Rach Vem Beach. Scientists from all over the world come here to study the habits and character of bizarre marine life.

Bai Thom

Cashew nut plantations frame a quiet place called Bai Thom Beach. You can drive here only along the country lanes of the island, and the lucky ones may have the opportunity to witness the ebb of the sea. As with the other remote beaches listed above, the path here lies from the city of Zuong Dong.

Part of the province of Kien Giang, the Phu Quoc area includes the island itself and 105 wonderful islets of various sizes. The island is located at a distance of 46 km from the city of Hatien - the nearest city of the "mainland" of this province.
Most of the territory is occupied by beautiful sandy beaches, but there is also a mountainous area in which there are 99 mountain peaks; the highest of them is the peak of Mount Chua with a height of 603 meters. There are six major towns and villages on the island, such as An Thoi Town, Kia Kan, Duong Dong, GanhDau Village, Ham Ninh and RachVem. Each of these towns and villages carefully preserves its own traditions, features and attractions, which undoubtedly contribute to a great time on the island. We will tell about the best of them in our review.

How to get to Phu Quoc island

There are no direct flights from Russia to Phu Quoc. The most optimal time will be a flight on flights Vietnam Airlines, with one change in Ho Chi Minh City. If you are looking for a budget trip, then the most attractive fares for a flight with two transfers to Phu Quoc Island are at Air France and Emirates.
Domestic flights are operated daily by airlines Air Mekong and Vietnam Airlines from Ho Chi Minh Airport, Hanoi, as well as from Cannes Tho to Phu Quoc Island. Flights last from 50 to 60 minutes, and a one-way ticket costs from $40.
The airport Duong Dong located in the center of the island just 2 km from Duongdong city, so the city can be easily reached by various means of transport. You can get to the hotel by taxi for only $ 1.5-2.

Advice: When planning your trip to Phu Quoc, make a one-day stop in Ho Chi Minh City on your way there and back. It will be more convenient to get there (you will be freer in choosing the time of departure from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc), plus you will visit a wonderful city.

Ways to get around the island

By car. Most travel agencies offer car rental with a driver. Depending on your wishes and the required number of seats, you can rent a car for 7 seats - $ 100 for 3 days (a good option if you are traveling with a large company or relaxing with the whole family), or a bus for 46 seats - $ 300 for 3 days (reasonable option if you are going to hold corporate meetings in Phu Quoc). If you need a car for just 1 day, the cost of renting a 7-seater car will be about 35 US dollars.
By taxi. Taxi can be the most convenient mode of transport for those who want to arrive exactly where they need to go without problems and guides. The fare is 60-70 cents per kilometer. The most reliable carriers are Sasco and Mai Linh taxi companies.
On a motorcycle or bicycle. Most hotels often offer motorbike and bicycle rentals. Check with the administrator to clarify the terms of the lease. The rental price will not exceed $ 8 (excluding the cost of gasoline) depending on the type of motorcycle. Bicycle rental prices are calculated on an hourly basis.
On the boat. This is a convenient means of transport when traveling around Phu Quoc Island for sightseeing and especially if you decide to go fishing. For a group of up to 4 people, renting a boat will cost $80 per day for 1 boat. For each next passenger of the boat, you will have to pay another $8.
By bus. For budget travel, you can use the public transit bus. There are three bus routes on Phukok Island: No. 27 (Cua Can - Ganh Day - Rach Vem - Rach Tram route), No. 28 (An Thoi - Ham Ninh route), No. 29 (Duong Dong - North Island). The cost of a ticket in any direction is about $ 2-2.5.
And, of course, you should definitely take a walk through the Duong Dong market and enjoy watching the life of the locals, stopping at the stalls of street vendors or shops.

When to go. Best time to visit Fukuoka

The climate of the Emerald Isle is monsoonal subequatorial, with two distinct seasons: a dry season from November to May and a rainy season from June to October (rains can last for 20 days). And despite the fact that the weather in most cases somehow allows you to travel around the island all year round, it has been empirically proven that the best time to travel to Phukok Island is from about the end of October to mid-April, during the dry season, when the sky is blue and clear. and the rains are over. The hottest months of the year are April and May.

Where to live. The best hotels in Phu Quoc

The diversity of the hotel base on the island suggests a vacation for every taste and budget. Most of the hotels on the island are “like three stars” (in Vietnam, there is simply no star rating for hotels familiar to Europe, so everyone sets their own status at their own discretion). At the same time, for 1500 - 2500 rubles for a double room per day, you can get the highest European level service, beautiful views of the garden or the sea from the panoramic window and the absence of any complaints about the rest. Basically, hotels are cozy comfortable bungalows with thatched roofs in the traditional Vietnamese style.
Excellent accommodation can be found in any of the best hotels in Fukuoka. Many people like to stay in Arcadia Phu Quoc Resort, Coco-Palm Resort Phu Quoc, as well as Saigon Phu Quoc Resort & Spa. One of the lowest prices for accommodation offers Lang Cau Homestay, rest in a bamboo hut will cost no more than 500 rubles per day for two.

The best beaches and attractions of Phu Quoc Island

FUKOCA BEACHES
The first, and for some, the only reason to visit Fukok is its pristine coastline with several heavenly beaches. They have not yet been fully explored, and this is what gives the coast of the island a romantic attraction and beauty that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The beaches of Phukok Island stretch along the coast from north to south. You can only admire them and decide for a long time which one you will like the most. In order not to be tormented by the choice, we suggest paying attention to the best beaches of Fukok.
Truong Beach. This is a very attractive area with a white sandy beach stretching for 20 km: from Dinh Cau beach before Tau Ru beach. The coastal waters are home to many inhabitants of the deep sea, and the conditions for fishing are ideal. There is an opportunity to watch local fishermen and taste seafood right on the beach.
Ganh Dau beach located in the north of Phu Quoc island on the border with Cambodia. Starting in Duong Dong, the coastline extends north through the Phu Quoc Island National Park - and all this is a beautiful beach with blue ocean depths and white sand. From Ganh Dau Beach on a clear day you can see Mount Tha Lon in Cambodia. Do not miss the opportunity to taste delicious seafood.
Sao beach located in the south, near the An Thoi pier and 30 km from Duong Dong. The beach is very quiet. There are few merchants here, so nothing will stop you from fully enjoying the magnificent views. The quality of service on the beach is beyond praise: from basic amenities (chaise lounge and umbrella) to a restaurant.
Vung Bau beach- an idyllic beach in the north of the island near Dai beach, 40 km from Duong Dong and will appeal to those who would like to discover an ecologically clean beach in Vietnam.
Bai Thom beach- a deserted beach in the north of Phu Quoc Island, 35 km from Duongdong. This beach is quite secluded, making it ideal for adventure seekers.
Bai Wong Beach located 8 km from Duongdong. It is a wide and shallow beach with white sand and a long palm avenue. The infrastructure here is good and, as a bonus, it is on Bai Vong Beach that most people get the best photos.

TASTE THE ISLAND ATMOSPHERE
Phu Quoc has become famous for two things: beautiful beaches and national cuisine. Particularly famous on the island is the nuoc mam fish sauce, which has become popular throughout Vietnam and the world in general. You can watch the process of making the sauce at the factory Phu Quoc Fish Sauce located near the market in Duongdong. Entrance to the factory is free for everyone, but it is better to take a guide who will tell you in detail about all the stages of creating the sauce. And be prepared for... the ubiquitous fish spirit. Opening hours from 8.00 to 11.00 and from 13.00 to 17.00. In addition, there is something else worth seeing and trying here: spicy black pepper, with a sharp, but rather original taste. Local farmers themselves conduct tours of their plantations for a small fee. You can arrange a walk through the thickets of black pepper at any time of the year, but still the best time to visit is from February to July, when the harvest takes place.
Phu Quoc Island has a huge selection of seafood, and they are not only fresh, but also delicious. Caught from the sea and immediately cooked shrimp, fish and shellfish are a real delight for travelers when visiting the island.
Three must-try dishes when traveling to Phu Quoc

Nhum
One of the most bizarre shellfish to try might be nhum, a sea urchin. It is brown and looks like a coconut. There are two options for eating this dish: raw, or after thorough heat treatment. If raw food does not cause discomfort, do not miss the opportunity to taste raw nhum. When you order "nhum", the seller cuts the whole nhum in half horizontally like a coconut. After that, sprinkle it with lime juice and take the meat out of the shell with a spoon, dip it in wasabi sauce and enjoy. Fresh taste and sweet aroma, combined with wasabi sauce and lime sourness, you will hardly be able to resist and refuse a second serving.

Nhong
Phu Quoc is also famous for its nhong fish dish. You can cook it in different ways: fried, boiled, stewed. Nhong fish is also used to make "cha ka" - a cake with fish. A slice of rice cake, vegetables and fish cake is a good combination for rolls.
Nhong fish will also serve as a good decoration for a salad. It is used to prepare "goi ka" - fish salad. The secret to a good salad lies in choosing the right fish and preparing the sauce. The fish must be fresh, and the fillets are cut very thinly. Before you eat the fish, sprinkle it with lime juice. Then place the fish and some vegetables on a slice of rice cake and dip in the sauce. The sauce is a mixture of garlic, chili, peanuts, lime juice, fish sauce and a small amount of sugar.

Bang kang
Bang Kang (a type of noodle) - takes on a completely different taste when combined with fish and is considered a feature of the traditional cuisine of Phukok Island. The dish is served hot: it is a bowl of noodle soup garnished with thu fish fillet. On your plate, you can find this fish in three versions: boiled, fish meatballs and pieces of well-fried fillet. The different ways of cooking and serving this fish give this dish a more whimsical flavor. The best bang kang options can be tasted in a cafe Banh Canh Lady Phung located on a small alley not far from the street Nguyen Trung Truc.

What to see in Phu Quoc

SONG HYNG PAGODA
According to Mahayana, Sung Hyung Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Phu Quoc. It is located at the foot of a mountain near the center of Duong Dong. There is no exact information about who and when exactly the pagoda was built. The old-timers also speak of two different pagodas, which were called "Sung Nghia" and "Hung Nhan" and were erected long before it; then these names merged together, and today it is all called "Sung Hyung Pagoda". According to rumors, it was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The pagoda was restored twice: in 1924 and 1960.
Sung Hyng Pagoda has a unique architecture among ancient pagodas. Its doors face north. The pagoda is surrounded by huge trees, and the structure resembles a staircase that gets higher and higher with each step. It has an impressive triangle-shaped gate leading to the statue of the "Avolokiteshvara Bodhisattva" (the embodiment of the infinite compassion of all Buddhas or the Goddess of Mercy), located in the middle of the courtyard. Inside is a carefully decorated main hall. The altar of the temple is located in the main hall, in which three Buddhas sit on a dais: Amitabha is in the middle, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva is on the right and Avolokiteshvara Bodhisattva is on the left. Behind the statues is Cao Sanh's famous masterpiece, The Flying Dragon.
There are also many other decorations inside the pagoda, such as the "Dai Hong Chung" - a large bell, and many engraved quotes on the philosophy of Chinese Buddhism.
Visiting Sung Hyng Pagoda is quite easy as it is located near the center of Duong Dong. Free admission. The pagoda is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

KAU PALACE
One of the most famous attractions of Fukok is located on the west coast of the island. The palace was built relatively recently, in 1937, in honor of the goddess of the seas Thien Hau. It is worth getting to the palace at least for the picturesque views at the mouth of the Duongdong River. A special spectacle is prepared for those who enter the palace at the end of November (15-16 day of the tenth lunar month according to the Buddhist calendar), when the festival dedicated to Thien Hau takes place in the palace.

COCONUT PRISON
Coconut Prison, also known as Phu Kok Prison, is located in An Thoi. The name "coconut" originated during the Indochinese War and the rule of French colonists in Vietnam. Then there were four sectors in the prison: "A", "B", "C" and "D"; the prison is believed to have held up to 14,000 prisoners. However, at the end of the Indochina War, most of the prisoners returned home in accordance with the Geneva Accords.
With the outbreak of the Vietnam War, American troops built a new prison under the same name. The new prison had separate sections for men, women and the elderly. Over time, in 1966, another part of the prison was built, intended for Vietnamese soldiers serving their sentences. There were 12 separate sectors in the new part of the prison. Each sector was divided into four more sectors. The prison was very strictly guarded, surveillance was carried out around the clock.
Today, since 1986, the "Coconut Prison" has been recognized as an object of national historical heritage and now serves as a place for excursions, being a living testimony of war crimes. Some of the instruments of torture that were once tested on prisoners are kept here to this day. For example, you can see the Katso Tiger Cage, in which the prisoner was in complete darkness for a long time, and after being released from this tiger cage, the prisoners most often went blind.

MAGIC WELL
magic well Giếng Ngự located 2 km from An Thoi. The beautiful landscapes of the lake and the verdant mountain slopes of the island undoubtedly cause genuine delight among tourists. On the mountain is a small temple and a pink stone throne known as the "King's Throne". When approaching the Magic Well, a stele can be seen in the place where the "King's Sword" entered, and from where a cool spring later gushed.
The magic well has not only historical, but also mystical significance, which should not be overlooked by travelers to Phu Kok. In the 17th century, fleeing from the Tai-son troops pursuing them, King Nguyen and his warriors became exhausted from thirst due to a lack of fresh water. To survive, the king had no choice but to raise his sword to heaven and pray to the Almighty: "If the Almighty still wants to see me as a king, then let him send us food and water." As soon as the king plunged his sword into the ground after this prayer, from the ground, to everyone's amazement, a stream of pure water clogged.
Choosing the island of Phukok as a refuge to rest and recover from the defeat in the Tay Son rebellion, King Nguyen was able to defeat Tyson's troops and take control of the Saigon Gia Din region a few years later.

SOURCE TRANG
The spring, 15 km long, originates in Mount Ham Ninh and flows through the forest thickets, forming waterfalls. Sparkling waterfalls, falling into the green forest, undoubtedly complement the picturesque landscape, presented to the astonished gaze of the traveler. Perhaps the very name of the source, the name Tranh (“picture”, “view”) comes from the magnificent view of this source and the surrounding area.
A 15-minute motorbike ride from Duongdong town will take you to Tranh Alley, an ideal spot for a picnic. You can take food with you to rest at the spring, and then go into the forest and watch birds and other representatives of the local flora and fauna, following the winding paths and rocky steps along the stream. After a long walk, during which you will enjoy the singing of birds and the beauty of orchids, you will see Grotto Hang Doi(Bat Grotto), located in the mountains at an altitude of 200 meters. It is home to beautiful stalactites and can become another hospitable place for tourists. And after a fascinating walk, you can relax by plunging into the cool waters of the source. The cost of visiting the source is VND 30,000.
And be sure to listen to the story of a mysterious fish weighing 10 kg, caught in a spring by local residents in 2008. This fish has strange dots on its head, which makes its head look like a monk's head, and its tail looks like a float on the water. They say that this fish is so rare that the locals have not seen anything like it for a long time. Although one foreign tourist offered $1,000 for the fish, local tourism leaders still display it as an exhibit at the show. So, you can watch it yourself for free.

FISHING VILLAGE HEM NIH
Located 20 km northwest of Duong Dong, the fishing village of Ham Ninh is famous for its enchanting scenery and the quiet life of the local fishermen.
Initially, the inhabitants of the village of Ham Ninh were engaged only in fishing, but recently tourism and the sale of seafood and souvenirs have become the main source of income for the local population.
When visiting Ham Ninh, travelers get a rare chance to taste refreshing healthy drinks and seafood - for example, ginseng and algae tincture, Tram mushroom (a special island mushroom), seahorse tincture. And, of course, admire the enchanting sunsets, and before returning home, buy crabs, a bottle of seahorse tincture or souvenirs made of shells as a gift to family and friends.

DIVING IN THE WATERS OF THE ANTHOY ARCHIPELAGO
Archipelago An Thới, located opposite the southern end of Fukuoka, consists of 15 tiny islands, the largest of which is only three kilometers long. Fans of snorkeling and diving, fishing enthusiasts, as well as those who want to spend time in the image of Robinson Crusoe are sure to visit the islands of the archipelago and plunge into the coastal waters (small fishing villages are only on the largest of the islands, all the rest are uninhabited). Boats to the islands depart from the pier in An Thoi, but you can always save yourself the trouble of looking for the right boat and book a trip to the archipelago by contacting the hotel administrator. It is important to remember that at the height of the rainy season - from July to September, it is almost impossible to get to the archipelago, boat traffic in Fukuoka is seasonal.
