Huashan mountain trail in China. The most dangerous hiking trails and roads in the world

Many people are not ardent supporters of extreme recreation, but there are quite a decent number of fans of the thrill, the chilling sense of danger, and if you are one of them, then Mount Huashan in China is what you need. The walking route, known as the death trail, does not require any special technical skills, but special care must be taken when climbing the long trail of stone steps of the so-called celestial staircase.

The cure for fear

Famous for its majestic cliffs (death trail) - this is China, which is located near the city of Xi'an (Shaanxi province). It offers many breathtaking routes, including cable car climbing, rock climbing and walking. The ascent of about 14 kilometers is accompanied by a certain degree of risk, in some places there is not even a road, but only steps carved into the stone.

For many tourists, it is preferable to climb from the foot of the North Mountain to its top using a funicular. This saves everyone a lot of time and energy. But there is a tourist route of passage from north to south, which will make the most daring travelers simply petrify with fear or, conversely, feel a sense of wild delight.

Death trail

The number of tourists wishing to visit the death trail on Mount Huashan is not decreasing, but, on the contrary, is growing every year. Daredevils who dared to make such an extreme journey overcome a path made of boards built above the abyss and move to the peak of the mountain, holding on well to chains attached to vertical rocks. There are no fences, on one side there is a powerful rock, on the other - a bottomless abyss and a crazy wind.

Of course, there is still a minimum safety kit, this is a belt with a small cable and a carabiner. The prize for brave climbers will be not only a wonderful view from the top of Huashan (mountain), but also a whole storm of emotions that will not leave those who have managed to overcome the deadly climb in peace. Climbing a dangerous path is not a one-way trip, it is a round trip, but the descent is usually a little easier, and sometimes more difficult, as the accumulated stress and fatigue make itself felt.

How dangerous is climbing Huashan Mountain? Climbing there should not be considered mountaineering, which involves the use of modern equipment, and therefore mountain tourism is more suitable here. Numerous photographs show people in ordinary clothes and without special shoes. They resemble ordinary pedestrians, only very brave.

Mountain traditions

There is a big difference between mountaineering and mountain tourism. The climbers have received appropriate training, experience and special equipment. They are also fairly well aware of the risks they are taking. - this is what amateurs usually do, the more you need to be very careful and be in good physical shape.

Those who managed to get to the very top usually leave some of their personal belongings there. For example, among couples in love, it is customary to attach shiny locks and red ribbons, from the abundance of which their eyes simply run up. Each of those who conquered the dangerous path joyfully shares the pleasant feeling of satisfaction from the ascent. The famous flowing far below looks like a thin trickle, and everything seems so tiny. An unforgettable, awe-inspiring view from a tremendous height, and the pictures will remind you of a crazy and exhilarating adventure for a long time to come.

Mount Huashan in China

This huge mountain world resembles a separate reality, its own small world. Huashan (mountain) has five peaks, the highest of them is the South one, it reaches 2154 meters. The eastern summit is 2096.2 meters high and is the best place to watch the rising of the sun. The western peak has a height of 2082.6 meters, the Central one - 2037.8 meters (another name for the Jade Maiden), and the North peak with a height of 1614.9 meters is also called the Terrace cloud.

In ancient times, Mount Huashan (death trail) was called the most dangerous and steep mountain in all of China. The most famous part of the path is called the edge of the green dragon, on the sides of which there are two huge abysses. Overcoming the distance from the village to the top of the mountain takes from 6 to 9 hours, but if you wish, you can stay overnight in the village itself, where there is a small but cozy hotel.

Sacred place

In the second century BC, this place was a major religious center, in the heart of which a Taoist temple was built. It is also a center for traditional martial arts training. Many emperors came to this sacred place to pray and offer sacrifices to the God of Mount Huashan.

They say that Lao Tzu, the founder and patriarch of Taoism, once lived and read sermons here. Since then, pilgrims, monks and nuns gradually began to populate the mountainous surroundings. Access to five mountain peaks, each of which is of religious importance, is possible thanks to a network of narrow paths built of wood and stone. There is a tea house on one of the three peaks.

Mount Huashan: deaths

In recent years, due to the large influx of tourists, the paths have been more or less improved, but still the road to the top remains an extremely risky venture. Although there are no official statistics on deaths here, it is said that Huashan (mountain) abducts about 100 human lives each year.

Making their way along the narrow and winding path, tourists risk their lives every time. There is a high probability of getting all kinds of injuries while climbing. These precipitous mountains under the skies are a true natural wonder. The breathtaking sharp cliffs and cliffs are a daunting task for those climbers who dare to conquer them. The landscape changes dramatically at every step of this winding path. It seems that the beauty of the mountain has a real magical effect on everyone who visits it.

Even the pictures taken show how dangerous this route is. On some stretches of the path, it is enough to make just one mistake to cost your life. Despite this, many tourists annually make a pilgrimage to Mount Huashan. World famous attraction in China Huashan - Death Mountain is not free. Admission to the mountain costs about $ 30 dollars ($ 15 for students).

Spain. El Caminito Del Rey Balancing on the brink between life and death, thrill seekers from all over the world walk along a narrow, crumbling path, which is laid at an altitude of more than a hundred meters above the ground, trying not to think that any careless movement can become fatal for them.
The El Caminito Del Rey trail was built in 1905 to facilitate the movement of workers between the two hydroelectric power plants.
It is also known as the King's Trail. To walk on it, you must be at least 12 years old and have good altitude tolerance. China. Huashan Mountain Trail The Qinling Mountain Range divides China's central Shaanxi province in two. Here is Mount Huashan, to the top of which the Hua Shan Yu walking trail was laid back in the 4th century. During the Tang Dynasty, this trail was improved, but even today it remains extreme. Despite the safety measures (stone steps were built, the width of the trail was increased and the railings were added), fatal accidents still occur here.

But the second trail leading to Mount Haushan is the most dangerous, it is literally a road over an abyss. She is also known as the new paths of Yueyang or the "Path of Death" Daredevils who want to prove their fearlessness to themselves and the world, and weak-minded people who dream of getting rid of inner insecurity come here. "The path of death" is a board nailed to a steep rock hundreds of meters high, and chains to hold on to. The creation of these trails is very difficult and dangerous. A whole army of "Spider-Men" from the province of Hunan is building hundreds of meters of mountain trails at a great height, using only seat belts. Each such trail is only a meter wide and is not even equipped with railings. According to the head of the trail construction team, Mr. Zhang Bin, workers who build a trail among the steep cliffs must be very brave and, at least, extremely tough psychologically. China. Mountain trail to school
The village of Gulukan is located in Western China. Probably, the most fearless children live here, because every day they have to go to school along a narrow path carved into the rock, which is located at an altitude of 1500 meters. There is no other road from the village. France. Roche veyrand
There are about 120 via ferratas in France, which range from easy to very difficult routes. (Via ferrata or "iron trail" is a rocky area equipped with wooden or metal structures to facilitate its passage). The Roche Veyrand ranks among the most difficult and dangerous mountain trails in France. The trail is located in the southeastern part of the country, in the Rhône-Alpes region, in Saint Pierre d'Entremont.
Switzerland. Ebenalp trail Switzerland is home to the prehistoric Ebenalp caves, which are very often visited by tourists. So that travelers can get to this natural attraction, the Ebenalp trail was built, which begins at the mountain station of the same name. The path along the trail takes only 20 minutes, but the impressions of passing this route will remain with tourists for a lifetime. Unfortunately, there was only one photo of this trail. Ireland. Cliffs of Moher This trail is designed for those cyclists who love to tickle their nerves. The Cliffs of Moher Trail is considered the most dangerous cycling trail on our planet. It rises 215 meters above the Atlantic Ocean, and in some places the trail is less than one meter wide.
It's scary to just walk this path over an abyss, let alone ride a bike. But if dangerous hiking trails exist mainly for thrill-seekers and adrenaline addicts, then moving along no less dangerous highways is a harsh daily necessity for residents of those places that will be discussed below. There are countless such roads around the world. Below are three of the most prominent examples.
Some roads are more forgiving of small miscalculations in driving, some less, but Old Youngas Roads circuit does not forgive anything. Every year the number of deaths among those who dare to drive along the forty-mile Old Yungas Road exceeds a hundred. Ironically, this route has become a tourist pilgrimage destination for those foreigners who wish to add the item "drove along the most dangerous road in the world" to their list of achievements. One lane, steep slopes, and the absence of fences only add to the danger. In addition, fog and rain can impair visibility and cover the road surface with mud, as well as cause the rock above to loosen. Guoliang Tunnel in Taihang Mountains (China).
The name of the tunnel is translated from Chinese as “The road that does not tolerate mistakes”. The tunnel was first created by villagers from the remote Taihang Mountains to reach the outside world. It is now a 3.1m wide road which is quite scary for drivers. The tunnel has 30 windows to see what's what.

Halsema Highway, Philippines
Great, but in places very dangerous road on the island of Luzon. In addition to unpaved road sections, landslides and large stones, heavy fog is possible.

There are fewer and fewer places on Earth where no human has ever set foot. In particular, they (these very legs) reached the steep slopes of Mount Huashan. And since it was not possible to get around the mountain, they had to lay a real path of death on its slope.

Where is Mount Huashan

The mountain itself is located approximately in the center of China, 120 kilometers east of the city of Xi'an, in the Shaanxi province. Just 20 kilometers to the northeast, you can see the bend of the famous Yellow River Yellow River.

Geographic coordinates 34.477797, 110.084682

Mount Huashan

In short, it is worth mentioning directly about Mount Huashan. It is the western mountain of the Five Great Mountains of China. In fact, the mountain has several peaks. It was originally classified as a mountain with three peaks, but it is now generally accepted that it has five peaks. The highest is the South Peak with a height of 2,154.5 meters (according to other sources, the height is 2,160 meters).

At the top of the mountain is a teahouse, which is actually one of the many Taoist temples located on the five peaks that make up Mount Huashan. Considering that the first inhabitants of this region were monks and led an ascetic lifestyle, their daily meditation was accompanied by a cup of tea.

Thus, gradually the temple became a tea house, which is visited by thousands of tourists every year. But getting to this secluded place is not so easy. The tea peak of the mountain is located on its southern side, at an altitude of 2155 meters. Following the path of death, you can get to the top.

Death trail

Many people every year go to conquer one of the most dangerous hiking trails in the world. No wonder they call it the path of death. It consists of rickety stairs and planks nailed to the stones. Every step of this road is accompanied by a powerful adrenaline rush for any person.

The road to the top begins with a large staircase called the "Heavenly Staircase". At first glance, it leads to the sky. This is a kind of climbing into the clouds, since it is unrealistic to see where the steps end, and there are thousands of them.

Heaven ladder

On the way to the top, you can see houses and even small villages. However, the road does not end here. This is just the beginning and the most accessible part of the journey. Once you are on the south side of the mountain, one of the most dangerous routes in the world awaits you.

This part of the path is made of thin planks that are anchored to the side of the mountain. To maintain your balance, you must hold onto chains, also attached to the slopes. Sometimes small holes in the rock can be used. There are practically no security features here.

We think that when (and if) you get to the end of the trip, mountain top tea combined with adrenaline will be incredibly delicious.

Someone overcomes the crazy path just to prove something to themselves or to tickle the nerves (for themselves and those close to them). But there is a real Yungas death road in the world. People use it only because there is simply no other way.

The death trail myth

Many sources claim that the death trail is the only way to the top of Mount Huashan. But this is not the case. In fact, you can get to the top in easier ways. 2 cable cars lead respectively to two mountain peaks. And the death trail is just another attraction in the vastness of the Celestial Empire. But the ride is really dangerous. There is a fee to visit the death trail.

Crowds of tourists storm the death trail

Recently, various security systems have been introduced, for example, safety cables.
Be that as it may, the death trail definitely deserves attention, at least for the views that open from it.

Don't forget to visit Emperor Qin Shi Huang's legendary Terracotta Army. It is located about 70 kilometers west of the death trail, near the city of Xi'an.

Such a staircase can be found on the death path.

Good day, dear extreme lovers! Today our post will be dedicated to a place called Huashan Mountain in China. What's interesting there? And everything is simple, there is the famous death trail. This exciting place will be discussed today. They drove.

Mount Huashan Death Trail

Another extreme attraction in the world is Huashan mountain trail in China... Mount Huashan is one of several sacred mountains in China that are revered by Buddhists and Taoists around the world. There are only five sacred mountains, and they form a figure like a cross, the sides of which are oriented to the cardinal points.

  • In the east is Mount Taishan (Shandong province, 1545 meters above sea level).
  • In the west - Mount Huashan, which will be discussed in this story (Shaanxi province, 1997 m).
  • In the south - Hengshan Mountain (Hunan, 1290 m).
  • In the north - Hengshan (Shanxi province, 2017 meters).
  • In the center is Mount Songshan (Hunan Province, 1494 meters).

Recently I saw a video from this place on the Internet, and decided to figure out a little more in more detail what this terrible route is.

Mount Huashan death trail video:

Climbing Mount Huashan is considered very interesting,

due to the fact that the surroundings in which this happens are very picturesque, and the ascent itself is very extreme, since it passes almost over the abyss.

The altitude at which you are moving along the route is almost 2000 meters above sea level. Tourists climb up, walking along a thin boardwalk, fastened with rusty nails, while holding on to a chain that is embedded directly into the rock. There is also insurance, which, apparently, does not give a lot of confidence, since there is a huge abyss below, and the insurance resembles a straw that a drowning man grabs at. And so, slowly, "sticking" to the rock, you have to go from the beginning to the end of the route, and then come back. At the end of the route there is no exit, you have to go back 😉

Another video about the death trail on Mount Huashan:

I look at the video of the mountain trail in Huashan (huashan cliffside path) and the adrenaline is enough for my livers, despite the fact that I am at the computer. I can imagine how people who find themselves in place feel. Judging by the reports on the Internet, there are people who, after taking one step, cannot advance even a centimeter, their arms and legs are stiff with horror and they are carefully removed from the walking route.

By the way, while I was studying the materials on this route, a natural question arose: "Did anyone jump from there with a parachute or?"... If you know something on this issue, let me know in the comments, please.

Huashan Walking Route attraction cost: 30 yuan (about 160 rubles).
Interestingness: 9.0 out of 10 (breathtaking, and I think this is a serious test of strength for those who are afraid of heights).

Well, a little more extreme and adrenaline for today. Some people are tough opponents of all this, and a decent part is crazy about the thrill!

If you cannot live without thrills and simply dream of a new portion of adrenaline, then the extreme "attraction" on the Chinese mountain Huashan is for you. Daredevils who want to prove their fearlessness to themselves and the world, and weak-minded people who dream of getting rid of inner insecurity come here. Huashan mountain is an effective fear pill and an effective self-affirmation vitamin.

Flower Mountain, and this is how the word Huashan is translated into Russian, is a sacred Chinese mountain that unites five petal-shaped peaks and is located near the city of Xi'an in the Shaanxi province. There are many fascinating tourist routes laid here - among them there are cable car ascents and hiking ascents. Inquisitive travelers, if desired, can get to each of the five Huashan peaks - South, North, West, East and Central.

3

The most convenient way is to use the funicular and climb from the foot of the North Mountain to its top. The road to West Peak is also safe. The hiking ascent to the Northern summit, which starts from the eastern entrance, with all the tortuousness and steepness of the ascent, although it requires a fair amount of physical preparation, is also not associated with great risk, since it is laid along rather wide stone steps.

4

But there is also such a tourist route that can bring the most impressionable tourists to a swoon - this is the transition from the North peak of Huashan to the South one. Some travelers, having taken the first step, literally turn to stone with horror, unable to disengage the fingers, which were clenched by convulsion and budge. And this is not surprising.

5 Clickable

This road, laid along steep vertical cliffs, is not for nothing called the path of death () - to fall from narrow boards into a bottomless abyss would mean certain death, but the flow of tourists seeking to make a risky ascent does not thin out. Travelers step on boards nailed above the abyss and move to the top hugging a rock or holding on to chains tightly soldered to the stone wall.

6

No railings or fences - just you, a crazy wind, and hundreds of meters under your feet. Of course, there is no kind of insurance - all daredevils wear a belt with a cable and a carabiner on it so that they can cling to a safety rope stretched along the entire route.

7

Courageous tourists will be rewarded not only with a marvelous panorama from the South Summit - the highest of all five "petals" of the Huashan flower, but also with a whole bunch of violent emotions experienced by travelers who have overcome the ascent. The news that climbing the most dangerous trail is not a one-way route, but a two-way route sounds like a bolt from the blue for many tourists, but the descent, as a rule, is already easier.

8

Believing in happy omens, couples in love leave symbols of an inextinguishable feeling on the top of the conquered mountain - shiny locks and red ribbons, the abundance of which dazzles in the eyes. Each of those who have conquered the dangerous path is happy to share the extraordinary sensations of the ascent - at first it is panic fear, and then delightful euphoria from the fact that he did not give up, managed, overcame, won.

9

120 km east of Xi'an, the granite peaks of the Huashan Massif rise above the northern plains. It is one of the five sacred mountains of China, in their system it was called Xiyue, West Peak. The Taoists especially revered her.

In total, Huashan has five peaks: the highest is South (2154, m), then East (2096.2 m), Western (2082.6 m), Central (2037.8 m) and North (1614.9 m). The shape of the location of these peaks resembles a lotus flower. Perhaps because of this, the mountains got their name.

The ascent to Huashan, which is about 14 km, is very dangerous. In some places there is no road, the steps are simply carved into the sheer cliff. In ancient times, Huashan was called "The most steep mountain in the Celestial Empire."

10

The most famous section of the trail is the Green Dragon's Rib, with chasms on either side of the steps.

It takes six to nine hours from Huashan village to the top of the mountain, but you can stay overnight both in the village itself and in rather modest hotels on the route up.

By the way, massive chains were bolted to the walls of the mountain relatively recently - for Western tourists. And before, they simply climbed Huashan - along the planks. It is also good that at least in some sections of this amazing route the chains do not adhere to the rock itself, but are suspended in the form of a railing from the outer side of the path.
