How much money to take with you to Thailand. How much money to take to Thailand

Kamale is next to the beach. Thanks to tourists who “live” only in Patong, a rumor has spread among the people that everything in Phuket is “too expensive”. In fact, you can find normal prices in Phuket. Yes, it will be far from the beach. But if you have a motorbike, you will still be able to travel around the island and will be able to eat not only near the beach.

How much money do you need for food in Phuket? Let me give you an example. We were driving from Rawai towards Phuket Town and stopped at a Thai cafe somewhere in the Wat Chalong area. It's not even a restaurant, it's a market. For two soups and two beers we paid 540 baht. Therefore, in Phuket everything is relative.

  • Hot from 200 baht
  • Pad Thai from 150 baht
  • Tom yum from 150 baht
  • Chang beer in a cafe 0.33 l 90 baht
  • Chang beer in a cafe 0.6 l 120 baht

The minimum amount it costs to eat in Phuket (you still have to try!) is 250 baht per day. This is the living wage, so to speak, and no one wants to be limited to it on vacation. Of course, the sky's the limit; you can go to the most expensive restaurants and spend $100 per meal. Many Europeans vacation in Phuket; a large number of such restaurants have been built for them, where you can eat for 100 dollars. If you drink alcohol, you can increase this amount by 2-3 times.

If you do not want to save extremely (250 baht per day), then you will need 1000 baht per day in Phuket for food in mid-price restaurants, buying fruit at the market, ice cream and water in the supermarket.

Prices at Rawai fish market in Phuket

If you want the freshest seafood, then you can go to. Here you can buy everything in the fishing village and immediately cook it across the road in a cafe. The cost of cooking is 50-100 baht per kg, the cost of seafood is from 250 to 1800 baht per kg. If you want a lot of seafood, tasty and inexpensive, then the best solution is Thai buffets. Here you can gorge yourself on shrimp, mussels, squid, crabs and other seafood for 250 baht plus drinks. Buffets are everywhere, but in some places you have to look for them. How much money should I take to Phuket in 2019 for food at buffets? The most famous in “Jungceylon” in Patong - on the ground floor “Shibushi” costs 350 baht per person, another buffet there costs 429 baht. In Patong there are lesser known ones - 279 baht, - 249 baht, - 249 baht, - 159 baht.

How much money to take to Phuket in 2019 for transport

The biggest expense in Phuket after flights and accommodation is transportation. There are public songthaews here, but you have to wait for them. Their largest concentration is in Phuket Town, and not on popular beaches. Travel to them costs from 40 baht. There are minibuses, from the airport you can get to the beach for 180-200 baht.

Taxi in Patong - from 200 baht. Taxi drivers are very reluctant to bargain because they are spoiled by tourists. from one end of the island to the other it costs 800-1000 baht. How much money should I take for transport to Phuket? If you go by songthaew, then 100-200 baht per day. If you take a taxi, then 300-1000 baht per day.

If you want to save money, you need to ride a motorbike. It gives complete freedom of movement around the island. You won't be able to visit and see so much without a motorbike. However, a license is not required to rent a scooter. And the police can stop you only in one case - if you are driving without a helmet. If you are afraid to ride, ride together with one of your friends. Get behind the wheel if you are confident in your driving skills. Because tourists, unfortunately, often get into accidents. This must be taken into account. Those who ride a motorbike are divided into those who have fallen and those who will fall. I also fell off a motorbike. Therefore, think three times whether it is worth the risk. The mountain passes between the beaches can be very steep, and the road between Patong and Phuket Town is like a roller coaster.

How much money should I take to rent a bike in Phuket? In Patong, rental offices cost 250-400 baht per day, gasoline - about 40 baht per liter. Our Honda Click holds 4 liters of gasoline, which is 160 baht. Enough to travel a lot for several days in a row. Service for Honda Click is also inexpensive. We pay 40 baht to tighten a mirror, and 250 baht to change a wheel.

How much money to take to Phuket for entertainment

If you walk, it's free. But in Phuket there are long distances, so you won’t walk much. On average, if you take a full-day excursion, it will cost 2500-3500 baht. Next, consider for yourself how many organized excursions you want to attend. You can drive through all the places yourself if you have a motorbike and want to save money.

If you don't want to save extremely much, you will need $400 per week in Phuket. With this amount you can eat every day good restaurants, attend a Thai massage, go on 2-3 excursions and buy something for yourself and your loved ones as a gift from Phuket. But something will have to give up with a budget of $400 per week per person.

If you don't want to skimp on anything at all in Phuket, eat lobster every day and take a taxi, you'll need $1,000 per person for the week.

If you have already read 100,500 articles and decided that everything in Phuket is terribly expensive, then I will upset you. Everyone finds what they are looking for. This is a truth that applies not only to the question of how much money to take to Phuket in 2019. And if I go for a massage in Patong for 250 baht, and my friend for 500 baht, this does not mean that Phuket is too high prices. This means that my friend does not want to walk further than 50 meters from the beach. This is her choice and desire to manage her money. I’m even a little offended for Phuket when people who haven’t really seen anything, haven’t gone or traveled anywhere, prove to all their friends that “everything is terribly expensive, we won’t go again.”

Before traveling to Thailand, you need to know how much money to take with you, in what currency and whether to take a bank card. If you do not answer this question before arriving in this country of smiles, then difficulties may arise, such as a lack of money for food or housing (these are extremes), as well as for souvenirs, attractions and restaurants (you can do without this, but you will have a rest not as comfortable as it could be).

First, let's figure out what currency to take with us to Thailand. It's best to take dollars, in extreme cases the euro. You can change dollars upon arrival at the bank or exchange office at a favorable rate for Thai baht (at the exchange rate 1 $ = 32 baht, 1 baht = 1.8 rubles - approximately). In Thailand, you can pay everywhere with baht or a bank card.

And now about the amount of money. On average, for a two-week holiday in Thailand you need to take 25,000-40,000 baht (not including air tickets), for a month you will need 50,000-60,000 baht, and if you take 60,000 baht, you can deny yourself practically nothing. This is the cost of a “typical” holiday, without frills, but with amenities. Some enterprising travelers fit into the budget of 20,000 baht for a whole month of vacation per person, but this is more like everyday life than a vacation (there are many Russians living on the islands of Thailand who moved there “for good” or for the winter).

It is important to understand that everyone vacations differently: someone lives in a 2-star hotel for 400 baht per day and goes to eat in inexpensive cafes, does not go sightseeing and buys souvenirs at a minimum. Such a two-week vacation will cost 10,000-15,000 baht. And some live in a five-star hotel for 5,000 baht per day, dine only in expensive restaurants, go to all kinds of spa treatments and go on a yacht in the evening. Such a two-week vacation will cost 120,000-150,000 baht. Therefore, it is better to decide in advance what kind of vacation you are counting on and based on this, roughly calculate how much money to take with you to Thailand. To make this easier, I provided data on what and how much tourists spend on vacation in Thailand (without taking into account the cost of air tickets, how to buy inexpensive air tickets).

Rental of property

This type of spending applies only to independent travelers, for vacationers on tour packages, accommodation is included in the tour price. As for independent travelers: a room in a three-star hotel costs on average 700-1300 baht per day (breakfast is included in the price), i.e. for two weeks you need to pay 9800-18200 baht. How to book cheap hotel rooms. Alternatively, in some cases it will be cheaper than staying in a hotel. On average, a house not on the coast can be rented for 600-800 baht/day, thus paying 8400-11200 baht for two weeks. It is this item of expenditure that many tourists have the most and it is what largely determines how much money you need to take with you to Thailand.

Nutrition

Food in Thailand is inexpensive, and cafes are found at every turn. Most hotels only include breakfast in the room rate, so you will actually have to spend on food. A hearty and tasty meal in a cafe costs on average 150-200 baht; in a restaurant for dinner (without alcohol) you will need to pay 300-400 baht per person. And even with three meals a day we will pay from 6300 baht to 16800 baht. Almost all cafes and restaurants have free Wi-Fi.

Transport

This expense item is different for everyone. for 200-350 baht/day and rides where he wants. Someone wants increased comfort, and he rents a car for 1000-2000 baht/day. And some travel exclusively by public transport, which is quite cheap, since a ticket on a city bus costs 10-40 baht (depending on the route). If you are not going to actively move around Thailand, then budget for spending 1000 baht on transport; in most cases this is quite enough.

Excursions

There are a lot of excursions in Thailand. They all differ in duration and intensity, some include food and transportation, and some do not, so there is no specific figure for this expense item. Most excursions cost from 500 baht to 4000 baht, but you still need to go on them, because vacation is not only a vegetative existence on the beach in the sun, vacation should be varied and memorable.

Telephone, Internet

Here you won't spend much money. 500 baht for communication in two weeks is enough, which is enough to pay for several calls to your homeland and several hundred megabytes of traffic (Internet). It will be cheaper to buy a local SIM card upon arrival than to use an old one. Or you can avoid spending money on communications at all by talking on Skype in a cafe (after all, there is free Wi-Fi there). Some hotels have a fee for Wi-Fi, so take this into account when choosing where to stay.

Shopping and entertainment

Also a very controversial expense item. Some people spend 10,000 baht in bars, restaurants and clubs in one day, while for others 3,000 baht is enough for purchases for the entire vacation period. I recommend buying what you want, but in moderation. A vacation is just a vacation to relax your body and soul, so you can pamper yourself, especially since everything is cheap in Thailand, especially where there are fewer tourists.

Emergency reserve (NZ)

When you decide how much money to take to Thailand, do not forget about the emergency reserve. You should always have money “just in case.” You never know what will happen, you might scratch your rented bike, snag and tear your jeans, or get too carried away with shopping. Everyone thinks that nothing bad will happen to them, but still, something happens to someone, and this “spare money” comes in handy. I recommend putting 15,000 rubles on a bank card and not using it during your entire vacation, only in extreme cases.

Bottom line

Friends often ask me how much you need to take money with you to Thailand? How to calculate your travel budget? These questions are both simple and complex at the same time. It all depends on where exactly you are going Thailand, how long and what level of comfort you prefer. For tourists arriving in Thailand for a week, money You only need to take it with you for food, excursions, etc. Those who stay in Thailand longer should take money already for other expense items: transport, rental housing, visas, etc.

Budget planning formula from We Traveled-We Know.
How much money you are willing to spend on housing is the same amount you will spend on everything else. Not less. If you are traveling on your own, look at housing prices on Booking in advance, and multiply this by two - this is approximately how much money you need to take with you to Thailand. Plus the price of an air ticket.

Let's estimate the average budget for a trip to Thailand. Let's consider how much money should you take? for food, shopping and excursions.

Thailand currency, money

The currency in Thailand is the baht (THB). All prices in the article will be indicated in baht, because... the course is constantly changing. To convert baht to rubles, hryvnias and other currencies, use Google. For example, like this: 345 THB to RUB

Where can I change baht? The easiest way is to withdraw money from bank card at any ATM upon arrival in Thailand. There are many ATMs and they are everywhere, the fixed commission for withdrawal is 150-220 baht, so it is not profitable to withdraw small amounts. The largest maximum amount (30,000 baht) is issued by Krungsi Bank ATMs, the lowest commission (150 baht) is issued by AEON ATMs. You can withdraw money from a bank card without commission at bank branches. Have your card and passport with you.

In addition, it must be taken into account that payments in small shops and markets will only be possible in baht; no other currency will be accepted. Large stores accept payment.

By the way, many are still interested in In what currency should you take money with you? If you want to travel with cash, then in Thailand it is absolutely no problem to exchange dollars and euros for baht. You can also exchange rubles, but the exchange rate will be very unfavorable.

How much money does it cost to eat in Thailand?

It’s very subjective: for some, it’s enough to eat rice and dried bananas, while for others, serve oysters and lobsters.
We consider ourselves to be in the average category of eaters.
Perhaps because we don’t order oysters often and only in Europe, lobster just doesn’t like the taste, and empty rice can stretch your legs.
Quite detailed information about prices in Thailand is written in the article of the same name.

Since in Phuket we stay in apartments or villas, then breakfast We have our own: yogut, scrambled eggs, grain cottage cheese, coffee.

Souvenirs and clothing in Thailand

The theme of shopping is very individual.
Some people shop at markets, I prefer big ones shopping centers like Jang Ceylon in Patong or the Kathu Festival.
You can buy some things directly near the beach - some small items, and some in Phuket Town - for example, fireworks.
There are many boutiques near the supermarket in Bang Tao - my wife buys dresses and sundresses there.
But if you need beachwear, shorts, flip-flops, shoes, go to Festival or Jang Ceylon.
The forum has a section: – in this section there are more than 100 topics about shopping not only in Phuket, but also in other resorts in Thailand.

As for souvenirs.
My opinion - vacation impressions are quite enough as souvenirs.
Everything else is junk and a waste of money.

A lot of readers who are planning to visit the states ask me this question, but of course I can’t name a specific amount, because we are all different people. For some, it will be enough to walk the streets, live in a simple motel, ride buses and chew hot dogs, while others will want to go to Disneyland, to a decent hotel with a blue pool, and take cool car rent and go to restaurants.

Therefore, first you must figure out for yourself where and how you want to live, what to eat and what places to visit, and, of course, how much money you have for this matter.

I will immediately deduct tickets, their price depends on transfers, class, flight, etc.

Housing

A motel (not to be confused with a hotel) in Los Angeles costs, on average, $60 per night. I think the closer you are to attractions and densely populated areas, the more expensive it should be, but there are buses and places to walk. As for motels, I can suggest Motel6 as an option - this is a chain. Prices can be viewed on their website. For example, in Hollywood the average price per night for 2 adults is $65. In motels of other companies and where they are cheaper it may be less pleasant: old bed linen, smoky and not very clean. You understand, it’s better not to skimp on this matter at all, and not to choose motels in creepy and suspicious areas. Also keep in mind that the closer you are to the ocean, the higher the prices. In Santa Monica (and not at coastline), for example, a shabby motel with ants in the toilet cost $120 per night, but in the Los Angeles Valley, a nice motel that could easily qualify as a hotel turned out to cost $90 per night, although it’s a very long way to all the attractions.

Hotel room rates start at $70 per night and go up to unimaginable numbers. You can live simply and decently for $100 per night per room, and with amenities from $150. For a view of the ocean and other joys, get ready to shell out several hundred per day.

You can also book a room from Russia, fortunately there are a whole bunch of Russian-language sites with hotels in the USA, where prices are indicated, there are descriptions, pictures and, most importantly, reviews.

Nutrition

The cheapest option is, of course, to buy bread, sausage and pasta and cook it yourself. McDonald's is a hypocritical cheap food. At first it seems that you have eaten too much, but an hour later you want to eat again. Yes, and it’s harmful. And don’t forget that McDonald’s in Los Angeles feeds the poor, and not like in Russia - this is a youth and fashionable establishment. Therefore, you can walk through the supermarket and buy normal products. It will be more useful and economical.

The second option is a cafe. There are inexpensive and fairly decent eateries. For example, you can eat a hamburger at In-n-out (considered the most decent cheap fast food) - for two it will cost $15-20, you can look into a Japanese, Thai or Chinese cafe, where the two of you can have a hearty and almost harmless meal for about 30 bucks -40 rice, noodles and soups, and you can also go to Soupplantation with buffet and just overeat (salad, soup, ice cream, drinks, pizza, etc.) for 27 dollars for two. Well, a classic Starbucks with a delicious bun and average coffee will cost $10 for two, but this is in the form of a snack or breakfast.

Well, the third option is restaurants. This is already from 40 dollars for two and above to infinity.

If you still want to visit cafes and restaurants, then choose places based on reviews, they can be viewed on Yelp.com.

Movement

Renting a car costs from $15 per day, there is a difference in classes. But it’s worth considering that they won’t give you a car without official documents, they may also ask for a deposit, and this also includes insurance. Filling a 40-liter tank will cost $40-45. Parking costs an average of $10 if you park in tourist areas.

Taxis are expensive here due to long distances, from $30 and up. And you won't get far in 30. I advise you to install the UBER app on your phone and order a taxi (these are private taxis) through it, it will be cheaper.

There are quite a lot of buses in the tourist areas of Los Angeles, so it is better to settle somewhere there, for example, in Hollywood. It will be easier to ride on the streets. Bus travel usually costs $1 (sometimes a little more depending on the route).

It will be more difficult to travel by bus around the city over long distances and to residential areas. Buses run here quite rarely and only on large streets, and then on foot and with transfers. But you can look at the schedule on Google maps and plan your trip route.

There is also a small subway in Los Angeles.

Entertainment

They don’t take money for walking the streets? For free you can walk around Hollywood, Down Town, along 3rd Street in Santa Monica, go to the Griffith Observatory, the Getty Center and just relax on the beach.

Inexpensive excursions can be arranged to museums in Hollywood - a ticket to 3 museums (Guinness World Records, Waxworks and Ripley's Museum) for one adult costs $27, a ticket to the Long Beach Aquarium or the Los Angeles Zoo for an adult will cost about $20, It costs $15 to walk around the grounds of the Huntington Library with tons of cacti and quaint gardens.

Spending a day at Disneyland is already 100 bucks for one adult. A day at Universal Studio is $77. A ticket to Six Flags is about $60.

You can also book a city tour on an open bus. Tours cost $20 per ticket and up. You can read more about this.

Souvenirs

If you decide to buy T-shirts and magnets, then it is better to do this not on the most touristy and interesting streets. There they greatly increase prices. Usually the prices for souvenirs here are similar to Turkish ones, for example, 4 magnets for 10 dollars, and stuff like that. It’s better to go to some of the most distant and quiet shops for such goods, there should be prices without unnecessary greed. And I also like to hang out at the Walmart supermarket at the postcard counter with a view of Los Angeles, the counter is right at the checkout, these postcards are 3 times cheaper there than in Hollywood on the boulevard. There are also many souvenirs good prices Available at CVS pharmacies, which are often located in the same area. zones

More a good place to buy souvenirs - this is the beach in Venice. They sell anything from magnificent paintings to crafts made from garbage. There you can buy a very cute and, most importantly, unusual hand-made item from a hippie, and don’t forget to bargain.

For expensive gifts, it is best to go to Macys, Nordstrom and Westfield malls. These are large shopping centers that are located in every district. There are clothes, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics and everything you want from popular and fashionable brands.

Bottom line

But now you just need to choose the options that suit you, make a travel plan and add everything into one amount.

Motel $60 + bus $10 + museum $40 + food $50 (where $30 Japanese cafe + $20 snack at In-n-out) + souvenirs and water (it’s hot in Los Angeles) $10 + $30 buy juice, cookies, sausage or champagne at the motel = $200

It turns out that $200 a day for two is enough for modest but acceptable food and partying. This is the minimum, if you want more museums and goodies - add more dollars?

And also, if possible, of course, take money with a reserve for “you never know,” both with you on a walk and on a trip in general. Especially if you want to do some shopping, go to Disneyland, and try and see a lot. It’s better to let this money just roll around in your pocket and not be spent (than your budget will not be enough), and then return home rested and happy with you! ?
