How was the company created?

Back in 1934, with the opening of an air route from Tyumen to Obdorsk (real Salekhard), through Samarovo (the city now called Khanty-Mansiysk), the world-famous UTair airline began its development history.

The main initial goal for a small air group was to provide the necessary and vital all the Northern Sea Route. The air group was located not far from Tyumen, at a small air hub in the village of Plekhanovo. Every day, the northern air group monitored the labor activity of small units that were subordinate to the company, their duties included the following:

  • servicing passenger flights;
  • air transportation of various cargoes and correspondence;
  • transportation of expeditions that were engaged in scientific research;
  • aerial forestry patrol.

In the late 1960s, numerous deposits rich in oil and natural gas were discovered in the Tyumen region. Since at that time road communication was not developed at the proper level, the government of the USSR issued an order to create the Tyumen Civil Aviation Administration on the basis of the then operating northern air group.

Since the air group was already able to establish the labor process, it did not take much for it to become the main part of the development and production process, and, of course, the transportation of countless riches, which were endowed by the generous nature of Western Siberia, in a short period. The arsenal of the Tyumen Civil Aviation Administration at that time included the following aircraft:

  1. Helicopters - Mi-8, Mi-6, Mi-10K, Mi-26.
  2. IL-76 aircraft.
  3. Aircraft An-12.

Packet pipes were transported on An-12 aircraft, and helicopters helped to transport due to the presence of external suspension of pipes, which were required for oil and gas wells of especially large diameter. It was simply unrealistic to transport such a load by car, and the railway line in these places, as previously noted, was not sufficiently developed. Therefore, only the aircraft of the Tyumen Civil Aviation Administration could cope with such a responsible task that they succeeded 100%. Moreover, the company was not going to stop at the achieved results, it was constantly developing and transforming. We didn't have to wait long for the results of their efforts, because in the early 90s, the following passed through the company's air berths:

  • about 8584 thousand passengers;
  • about 634 thousand of various cargoes;
  • more than 20 tons of correspondence.

After comparing the data, the experts came to the conclusion that it was the Tyumen Civil Aviation Administration that took the first place of honor both in cargo shipments and in passenger service. The work involved:

  • more than 590 air vehicles of various classifications;
  • 84 air hubs;
  • 20 airfields using artificial turf.

According to the order of the Minister of Civil Aviation, which entered into force in 1991, a reorganization was carried out, during which the Tyumen Civil Aviation Administration was renamed into "Tyumenaviatrans"... And exactly one year later, by decree of the current President of the Russian Federation and by mutual decision of all employees of the company, Tyumenaviatrans was reincarnated as an open joint-stock company and received full legal succession.

Spring 2002 The JSC was renamed into Utair, and a new name came into effect in the fall of the same year.
