Kingdom of Norway(Norwegian Kongeriket Norge, originating from the Old Norse Norðrvegr - "way to the north") is located in the north of Europe in the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The waters of the Barents Sea (in the northeast), the Norwegian Sea (in the west) and North Sea(in the southwest) wash over the country. Border neighbors are Sweden (east), Finland and Russia (northeast).

Thanks to geographic location and the length of Norway, each region of this green northern country is distinctive and unique. If in the west you can contemplate numerous fjords, then the central part of the country stands out for monuments of the Middle Ages and old buildings, the north - such an unusual phenomenon as the midnight sun (white nights), the south - coastal resorts and warm summer for Norway, and the east - good opportunities for active outdoor recreation - fishing in numerous rivers and lakes, hiking in forests and valleys, camping. Let's take a closer look at what the Kingdom of Norway can offer us, travelers.

The western coast is distinguished by a rather majestic landscape - it is the edge of fjords, mountains rising from the waters, and waterfalls falling from cliffs. Kristiansund and Ålesund are famous for the riches of their waters, cod and herring are especially good there; Molde is known for its beautiful roses and jazz festivals, well, the name Bergen already speaks for itself (see the "Cities" section above). At the same time, they pass through the mountains the winding roads of the Eagle Way and the Troll Trail.

Geiranger fjord included in the list World heritage UNESCO and is one of the most visited, there are two of the most famous waterfall - Seven Sisters and Wedding Veil. The splendor of this fjord amazes once and for all - steep cliffs with snow-capped peaks and harsh nature, powerful streams of mountain waterfalls pouring into the waters of the fjord - this is not forgotten!

Sognefjord is the second longest in the world and the longest fjord in Norway - 204 km, and its depth is 1308 m. Cutting deep into the coast, it divides further into two branches - Aurlandsfjord and Nэрrøyfjord, the latter being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And it is here that you can enjoy the full unique views of the fjord and mountains from above - at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level there is observation deck Stegastein adjacent to mountain road Aurlandsvegen. Flåm Railway or cruise ship will take you to these magical places.

The beauty of the mountains Lewse Fjord will not leave anyone indifferent. The most interesting and spectacular here are Kjeragbolten and Preikestolen. Kjeragbolten- a huge round stone stuck in a crevasse between two rocks at an altitude of 1084 meters, it is on it that many tourists like to take pictures. Preikestolen rock is also a famous landmark of these places - it hangs over the fjord at an altitude of 604 meters on an almost absolutely flat high plateau.

Central region showcases a fine example medieval architectureNidaros cathedral- the largest building of its era in Scandinavia with monumental sculptures and graceful stained-glass windows. Wooden buildings of the old Trondheim(the third largest city and the first capital of Norway) are also of interest to guests of the central part, and to the east of it there is the miner Rrus - old town with mines, ancient church and many wooden buildings, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In the northern part, the gaze of the traveler will open wildlife, in the summer you can watch wonderful white nights, and in the winter - the magical northern lights.
Or visit the most extreme point Europe - North Cape and feel the breath of the North Pole, and if you wish, plunge into the stormy nightlife- welcome to the city of Tromsø (it is called Northern Paris).

In the same part of the country, you cannot ignore Lofoten islands famous for their beautiful untouched nature... There is the world's largest deep-sea coral reef and one of the most dangerous eddies in the world (Malström), about a quarter of all seabirds in the country live, ancient caves keep rock paintings of primitive people (Kollhellaren cave in Refswik), settlements built already in 5th century and a complex of buildings erected in the 19th century (Nusfjord village). With all its diversity, Lofoten is a place of peace and tranquility. And their individuality is given both by the red fishing houses themselves against the background of breathtaking landscapes, and by the ropes stretched between the buildings with fish hanging on them. After all, dried cod is one of the symbols of these places.

Southern Norway is a region where picturesque villages with cute houses blend harmoniously into the austere landscape of the rocky coastline.
The largest city in the region is Kristiansand, next to which there are several islands - Fleckeray, Oksay and Gronningen - their beautiful nature and the views attract tourists every summer. Towns such as Lillesand, Twedesand, Brekkeste, Gamle and Nu Hellesund, scattered along the coastal cliffs among flowering gardens, give their charm to the region. Here is the village of Lyunger - the best preserved of the small settlements in Europe.
In vylke (Norwegian province) Telemark you will find the place where skiing began - Morgedal, and next to it is the Telemark Canal.

Norway and Vinsky are incompatible things.
Maybe because I love with my soul more than with my eyes.
Norway - beautiful country... But her beauty is cold and repetitive in many ways.
I assumed that 5 days would be enough for me, but I miscalculated - what I wanted to see and where I wanted to visit was realized in 2 days. On the third day, you could safely fly home.

But in order: the basis for the trip was taken by a very correct report kortchak: It is good because it gives a visual series. Moreover, this is not a monstrous jumble of photographs, which “shine” with many reports, but a correct selection of miniatures with comments. The only thing missing in the report: the names of the places in the original language. Well, route maps. Which I will quote in my essay.

Several times along the way, the instinct of a mushroom picker-berry picker worked. Then the car screeched with brakes and after a few minutes it turned out to collect a handful of large forest strawberries or wild raspberries. Or a basket of porcini mushrooms. It's amazing that nobody collects this. I read somewhere that the Norwegians despise mushroom picking and generally do not eat them, preferring to export champignons from the ubiquitous Holland. What a mess, what else can I say ... Pasta with porcini mushrooms or soup ... mmmm

The landscape that flashed along our path gradually changed from forbs, wildflowers, pines and birches, to dwarf vegetation and mosses. We drove into the tundra, dotted with numerous lenses of lakes. Here and there along the road and at a distance from it, pyramids made of stones appeared. We wondered what it was for. I remembered the military campaigns of Tamerlane, my companions expressed much more interesting: these are landmarks for the Norwegian spatial orientation system (Glonas in Norwegian), or is it a troll shelter from the sun ...

Stopped on the way for something to eat. Small town. Cafe. We go in. Mother dear! I have not seen such prices for hamburgers: 10 euros for two rolls and a defrosted cutlet between them. However, something is needed. I took a lasagne warmed up in the microwave with a whole packet of bread to it, plus beer. The cost of this snack was comparable to the cost of a good dinner at an average Moscow restaurant. Picking up the hot mass that spread on the plate with a fork, I noticed a rather large number of people with black skin passing by and smiling cheerfully. Here is such a thing for them that is in front of me now - just right.

We arrived at the Fossli hotel closer to 6 o'clock. The waterfall, noisy a few meters from the hotel, was not remembered as anything special. Oh yes, I forgot to say that after seeing the waterfalls in South America and South Africa, all the Norwegian waterfalls, of which I suspect a great many in the country, will look modest. Well, make noise to itself - let it make noise.

The idea of a trip to Norway came about after long meetings and conversations about choosing a country for a honeymoon trip. I didn’t want the heat, the beach and the accompanying entertainment - also, all day ride on excursions in overcrowded buses - all the more so. I wanted to walk a lot together, enjoy the natural beauties, sunsets and sunrises and at the same time admire foreign cities and villages. That is why the choice fell on Norway - this is where the mixture of fjords, forests, mountains and cities spread over them is breathtaking!
They immediately refused the services of tour operators, for several reasons: these comrades are too unreliable, judging by the first lines of news - once; an individual trip was planned, with freedom of movement and without accompanying assorted compatriots - two. But after all individual tour oh, how expensive it is, especially for three weeks. As a result, our self-made tour in cost turned out two times cheaper than the similar one offered by travel agencies.
So, the country was chosen, at the family council the honorary duty of the route planner was assigned to me, and ... I sat down to study the map, websites, online travel guides. I will definitely give useful links at the end of the first part, so as not to interrupt the storyline.
I wanted to combine two types rest - active, with hiking in the mountains, kayaking, and passively contemplative: sailing on boats, leisurely walks, leisurely excursions, a glass of wine in the evenings, and more. In addition, it is quite obvious that it is not advisable to stay in one or two cities for a long time, therefore it was planned to "embrace the immense" - to see as much as possible, within reasonable limits, of course.
So, the route.
To begin with, I dropped the polar territory, leaving it for the next time, and focused on southern cities... A few hours later, the route was drawn as follows - Oslo (2 days) - Bergen (7 days) - Village on the Sognefjord (3 days) - Geiranger (5 days) - Oslo (1 day). And I started with the easiest and most enjoyable - hotel booking. That was my fault. You need to start with planning your movements around the country, that is, how, on what (and how much) to travel from point A to point B ... Because, for example, in our case it turned out that we have one hour on the road from Geiranger to Oslo and in general getting to Geiranger from our location on the Sognefjord is long, dreary and problematic. Therefore, after a day of searching, the route had to be modified, and it acquired the following, more convenient form: Oslo (2 days) - Bergen (7 days) - Sognefjord (3 days) - cruise on the HURTIGRUTEN liner (1 day) - Alesund (3 days) - Oslo (1 day)
The aircraft was chosen as the main means of travel around the country in order to reduce the time. I can't say that they cut a lot, but still. Tickets for Oslo-Bergen and Alesund-Oslo were purchased. From Bergen to the village of Aurland (Sognefjord) and back we went by bus, to Ålesund we went on a liner with dignity. On the this moment I am compiling our next route to China and, based on the experience I have, I have chosen the main means of transportation around the country night Train... Don't waste money on a hotel - one time; not to waste precious time on the road - two.
I searched for flights (both international and in Norway) through Yandex.flights, which brought me to trip.ru. In principle, there are no complaints, inexpensive, without hidden fees and payments. By the way, they have a good customer support service, I entered my email address incorrectly, tickets were sent half an hour after my letter about it. I am currently using skyscanner service and then go to the airline's website and book directly.
I actively used google maps to draw up routes to hotels. The thing is cool - you set two points - a detailed route is laid with a map and a description of which street to turn off to. Very handy on the first day.
Hotels.
Hotels booked the following: in Oslo - Oslo Hotel Xpress, in Bergen - P-Hotels, in Aurland - Vangsgaarden, in Alesund - Alesund hostel. A cabin without a window was booked on the liner. All the hotels except the last one were about the same level, I would rate them three stars. Pretty decent considering that all of these hotels are centrally located and had the cheapest deals. There were no breakfasts in Oslo, in Bergen they were hung in bags on the door handle, in Aurland and Alesund - Buffet, however, without hot dishes. In Oslo and Bergen, there were tea and coffee sets with hot water on the ground floor - a very convenient service.
My second mistake was to book a hostel in Alesund. It would be better if we spent another three to five thousand rubles, but we would live in a hotel with a warm bathroom, normal repairs and an elevator. I don’t even want to talk about this place, I don’t recommend it to anyone and will continue to be smarter.
I booked hotels on booking, I do not intend to repeat my experience. Now I will use this site only for search, and book directly on the pages of hotels.
Links.
www.visitnorway.ru, then visitoslo.com, visitbergen.com, and so on for almost every city.)) Maps, basic information, where to go, where to eat, etc.
www.nsb.no - site of Norwegian railways, very clear interface, there is an English version. Pay attention to the "minipris" column - sometimes you can "catch" a ticket there with a really gorgeous discount, however, it will no longer be possible to cancel such a ticket.
www.nor-way.no - the site of the bus company. There is a schedule, ticket prices, and more. Switches to English.
www.flamsbana.no - the website of the town of Flåm with its famous Flåm railway, but you can also order various interesting excursions and cruises in the region. I don't recommend choosing the city of Flåm as a base - it's just a tourist staging post, I don't know if there is at least one resident there, except for employees of hotels, restaurants and shops. Available on the Sognefjord big cities such as Sogndal, Voss, there are picturesque villages such as Aurland, Gudvangen, Lerdal ... We chose Aurland.
www.hurtigruten.com - site cruise line Hurtigruten. You can order a full cruise, or from port to port. When ordering a cruise for more than 4 days, the price includes a full-board, i.e. three meals a day, which greatly saves food costs. The prices in the restaurant of the ships are oh-so, it's good that I guessed to pay for lunch (i.e. dinner) when booking. Breakfast is included in the price of any route, even the shortest one.

Norway is one of the most Nordic countries Europe, which occupies an essential place on the map, possessing a rather large territory, part of which is located beyond the Arctic Circle.

This country offers quite wide opportunities for various types of recreation, but it should be admitted that holidays in Norway are not suitable for everyone due to some of the specifics of this country, which should be taken into account by everyone who considers Norway as a possible option for relax.

for whom a vacation in Norway is not suitable:

  • people on a very limited budget

Although it is relatively easy to get to Norway - by plane (tickets will not be very expensive) or even by car (it is most convenient to do this for residents of the northern regions of Russia, which have a land border with Norway, equipped with international automobile checkpoints), but prices in Norway itself quite high - significantly higher than in Europe. Salaries and living standards in this country are also significantly higher than in Europe, with which they are connected high prices for accommodation, food, entertainment and more. Even the prices at McDonald's can be unpleasant for budget travelers - they are normal in Norway, but prohibitively high in Europe. Of course, there are hostels in Norway where you can save money on accommodation, but a budget trip to this country will still not work.

  • people who love certain entertainment - luxurious shows, great nightclubs

The cost of rest in Stavanger. August 2017.

tour cost

We had a valid visa obtained earlier when making another trip. We got to Stavanger from Stockholm by two flights: Stockholm - Oslo, Oslo - Stavanger. Tickets were bought on Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). Both flights cost 8,000 rubles per person, but this is without luggage, only carry-on baggage... We traveled from the airport to the city by shuttle-bus for 1000 rubles, the ticket was bought from the driver. Booked a hotel room 2 months in advance, the price per night was 6000 rubles, breakfast included. The Skansen Hotel is old, with a retro elevator, but the view of the waterfront is excellent.

They did not use the services of excursion companies, they themselves organized the ascent to Preikestolen. We bought a single ferry and bus ticket, costing 3200 rubles per person, they were bought on the ferry. In the morning at 9 am on the embankment we sailed by ferry to the city of Tau, sail for about 40 minutes. From Tau by bus to final stop, drive about 25 minutes. The same way back. As a result, this activity will take almost the entire day.

Food and groceries

Prices in Stavanger are high, as in all of Norway. On average, prices are 4-5 times higher than Russian ones. For example, prices in a supermarket: bread 150-250 rubles, ordinary tea in bags 300 rubles, chocolate 250 rubles, beer from 200 rubles. By the way, a container from beer, mineral water can be returned to the vending machine in the supermarket (the price of these drinks includes the price for the container, it is different depending on the volume of the bottle and the material). In McDonald's, a hamburger costs 700-900 rubles, and a pizza in the most ordinary cafe costs about 1500 rubles.

Vacation with children

Children in Norway are sacred. Here they build museums for them, come up with special attractions and arrange special holidays. In Oslo, during the championship specially for children on main square capitals organized mini-biathlon, real competitions. On one ski, the kids did cross-country races and received gifts for this. Their competitions, along with the real championship, were broadcast on the big screen, which delighted both the kids and their parents. With affection, we watched the noisy crowd of children at Royal Palace - official residence the current king of Norway. A mountain of snow, specially poured right at the foot of the monument to the once king Karl Johan, and a crowd of children screeching with delight with sledges is an idyllic picture.

Youth rest

There are many ski resorts in Norway, including those near Oslo. Every day we watched groups of youngsters, large and small, with gear going to neighboring Kongberg to go skiing and boarding. It is a pity that we only watched and did not participate in the ski races. We love it very much.

Family holiday

In Oslo, the cult of the family. An entire Vigeland sculpture park is dedicated to this theme. This is, of course, a strange park. But only here the whole gamut of family and human relations, from grief to joy, from birth to death, is so vividly and sharply expressed in sculpture. This is a philosophical park, not clear to everyone. But I would recommend visiting it to those who are just planning to start a family and deeply married couples.

What to take with you on vacation?

Coming to Norway, you should definitely have warm clothes with you. Although winters are not cold here, they are almost always snowy. Even if you don't plan on skiing, in order to walk as long as possible, it is worth bringing ski pants and a warm down jacket.

How to entertain yourself at the resort?

Oslo is a fairly small city, although it is a capital. And quite modest, without showing off. However, there are many significant places, which are known all over the world. The same Vigeland sculpture park, admission is free, by the way, to it. You should definitely go to the Art Museum on Oslo's waterfront. You will also see the famous Oslo Opera. If you like to walk on the roof, it is the roof of the Opera that is the easiest to get to. We spent a couple of hours at the Akershus fortress, from here opens a beautiful view of the Oslofjord and the city, reflected in sea water... There is also the famous Nobel Museum and the monumental brick City Hall of Oslo, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually. And if you come here for a couple of weeks, you can enjoy not only the sea coast and breathe in the fresh air, but also visit the numerous ski resorts near Oslo.
