S7 is part of the alliance. Registration in the Oneworld Rewards Program

An aviation alliance is an agreement between two or more airlines at a significant level to achieve more high level international cooperation in commercial air transportation. There are 3 global aviation alliances - Star Alliance, SkyTeam and Oneworld. Alliances create a single brand, for example, the creation of a single livery (painting) of aircraft among the airlines of the alliance. In the alliance, airlines retain their legal independence, but at the same time they unify bonus programs for passengers, use codeshare flights and agree on a schedule.

Alliance benefits

1. An extensive network - often implemented through code-sharing agreements.
2. Reducing costs.
3. For passengers:
- Low prices by reducing operating costs for shared routes.
- More departures on routes.
- More destinations with easy accessibility.
- Reduced time as a result of transfer optimization.
- A wide range of airport business lounges in collaboration with alliance members.
- Faster earning and spending award miles PMP programs.
- Round-the-world fares, allowing you to fly cheaper.

Passenger inconveniences that alliances may create

1. More high prices due to a decrease in competition along a certain route.
2. Less frequent flights due to shared routes.

From the history

The first alliance came about in 1930 when Pan American-Grace Airways and the parent company, Pan American World Airways, agreed to exchange routes to Latin America.

Although the alliance loses in terms of the number of participants (26 airlines) and (20 airlines), it is practically on a par with SkyTeam in terms of the total size of the fleet and the number of destinations. Largely due to the fact that the key airlines of the alliance are the huge American fleet and large Qatar Airways, British Airways, QANTAS and LATAM.

If we talk about airlines from Europe, there are only three of them in oneworld:

  • British British Airways
  • Finnish;
  • and the Spanish Iberia.

Russia is represented in oneworld by S7 Airlines, which, prior to joining the international alliance, significantly improved the quality of service, updated its fleet of aircraft, replacing outdated Soviet aircraft on modern airliners Airbus, Boeing and Embraer. Now the carrier fully complies with all international safety standards and quality of service.

Perhaps, over time, another air carrier from Russia will appear in oneworld, but at the moment the alliance announces its plans to expand its presence in other regions - especially in Africa and China. Oneworld is now practically not represented there, unlike Star Alliance and SkyTeam.

Oneworld member airline loyalty programs

Oneworld does not offer a unified brand reward program, but all participating airlines recognize reward points from other alliance partners. It is enough to register in one bonus program any member of the alliance and to this bonus account to accumulate points from any flights made on the flights of oneworld members.

The accumulated points can also be spent on the services of any airline of the alliance. And here is the list of privileges that opens up to members of the oneworld bonus program:

The main thing is that registration in several programs of different carriers is not required - it is convenient!

And one more distinctive feature of the oneworld alliance bonus program. You can accumulate points not only on flights of full-fledged members of the alliance, but also on affiliated airlines (usually subsidiaries for a particular carrier).

oneworld: safety and incidents

Today oneworld has very strict requirements for its member airlines. The safety standards are the same for the entire alliance. Before joining, each airline goes through a series of serious certification procedures. They show its compliance with requirements and standards.

Every carrier applying for oneworld membership undergoes an external audit. It includes checking the company for 118 points. Most of them are related to security.

We checked international crash databases to find all fatal accidents that have happened to oneworld airlines.

  • American Airlines has had two plane crashes since joining oneworld. Two aircraft with passengers were destroyed on September 11, 2001, during the terrorist attacks in New York. And in November of the same year, an Airbus A300 crashed - the aircraft's tail stabilizer fell off. 260 people were killed on board.
  • In July 2007, an Airbus A320 of LAN Brasil (now LATAM Airlines Brasil), while landing in Sao Paulo, rolled off the runway and crashed into a warehouse building. All 187 passengers were killed, as well as the crew and 12 people on the ground.
  • In August 2011, a Boeing 737 of LAN Colombia (now LATAM Airlines Colombia) crashed while landing. 2 people were killed, 114 were injured. The cause of the disaster was a lightning strike on the plane.
  • Two disasters in 2014 happened to the Malaysia Airlines liners. In March, flight MH370, carried out on a Boeing 777, disappeared from the radar screens. There were 239 passengers on board. Even the approximate place of the plane's crash is still unknown. The second airliner (also Boeing 777) was shot down in July of the same year in the skies over Ukraine. Killed 298 people on board.

Note! We analyzed accidents with aircraft of this or that airline only from the moment of its entry into the alliance! We took into account only incidents that resulted in the death of passengers.

There have also been several crashes and deaths of aircraft from different airlines, but they did without the death of passengers or people on the ground. Accidents with S7 Airlines airliners happened long before the airline entered the alliance.

Oneworld development prospects

For all international alliances, one of the most promising markets now is the Indian one. Oneworld is currently not represented there. Also, the alliance has no African airlines or frequent flyers to African countries. It is logical to assume that these are the main directions of the alliance's development.

On the other hand, oneworld has a strong presence in most countries Latin America, thanks to the airline LATAM. And in Asia by Malaysia Airlines and SriLankan.

Perhaps in the near future one or more airlines from Europe will join the alliance. And in 2018, Fiji Airlines (formerly Air Pacific), the national airline of the Republic of Fiji, is expected to join the alliance.

The Russian airline S7 Airlines (formerly Siberia), the largest in Russia in terms of the number of passengers carried on domestic flights, has since Monday become a full member of the global aviation alliance Oneworld (“one world” from English - “one world”). “Joining the alliance will strengthen our financial position by increasing income from passengers of other members of the alliance who will use the routes of our network,” says the CEO of S7 Airlines. In addition, according to him, membership in Oneworld will allow the airline to reduce costs: S7 will gain access to the common resources of the alliance.

The Oneworld alliance includes airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Malev Hungarian Airlines, Mexicana, Qantas and Royal Jordanian, as well as about 20 affiliated airlines. Oneworld is the third worldwide airline alliance in existence, alongside Star Alliance and SkyTeam.

S7 became the second Russian airline to join the international aviation alliance.

In 2006 Aeroflot, largest airline Russia, became a member of the Sky Team alliance (Alitalia, CSA). They argue that the alliance's international route network has enabled the airline to attract new passengers. In 2006, she invited the Russian aviation alliance AiRUnion to join Star Alliance, but in 2008 AiRUnion went bankrupt.

S7 began to actively move towards international markets several years ago, when the company was still called Siberia. S7 is one of the first Russian airlines to switch from Russian technology to foreign, one of the first to introduce e-ticket instead of paper forms. About $ 5 million was spent on rebranding and renaming the company into S7; the purpose of these procedures was also an attempt to get rid of the image of a loser company. In 2004, as you know, suicide bombers blew up the plane of "Siberia" - Tu-154. And the last A310 crash in Irkutsk (in July 2006) happened in the midst of a rebranding campaign, which dealt an additional blow to the airline. Joining the Oneworld alliance imposes additional safety obligations on S7.

However, it is difficult to blame the airline for the tragedy associated with the terrorist attack, says the head of the analytical department at AviaPort. And the difference between the provincial Novosibirsk airline "Siberia", which flew five ice ago, and S7, which the representatives of British Airways saw a year and a half ago at their first meetings, is obvious, he admits. Nevertheless,

S7's admission to the alliance is rather an advance, which it will have to justify in the future,

experts say. Before joining Sky Team, Aeroflot had a serious international route network and easily integrated into the alliance. Integration will be more difficult for S7. Due to problems with obtaining commercial rights for international flights (flights between Russia and other countries are regulated by separate intergovernmental agreements), commercial network international routes The S7 is not as developed as Oneworld would like.

In addition to S7, two more Russian airlines are of interest to international alliances - UTair and, which have a well-branched route network. But the companies themselves have not yet talked about such plans. “There are examples of carriers who entered alliances, but this did not help them to become successful. Therefore, our management is considering the option of joining the alliance from the angle of successful development in the future, ”the General Director of Transaero is cautious. According to her, only if the airline sees that joining one of the global alliances will benefit the company, primarily passengers, Transaero will consider such an opportunity. Now "Transaero" is developing bilateral cooperation with the world's leading carriers, increasing the number of agreements with them.

There are several aviation alliances in the world today, but only three of them have the greatest weight and importance. Founded in 1999, Oneworld is one of the top three. It includes 45 airlines, both full members and affiliated ones.

The history of the formation of "one world"

The Oneworld Alliance is the first aviation community to adopt a centralized flight management system. The headquarters of the union is located in. The management is carried out by the Managing Partner and the Management Board, whose members are the heads of the airlines of the full members of the alliance. Today Oneworld operates regular flights to 152 countries of the world to 992 destinations. The total passenger traffic is about 500 million people a year.

The official date for the creation of the alliance is February 1, 1999, when Oneworld began its operations. However, an agreement on this issue was adopted a year earlier, by five airlines: American, Canadian, British national carrier, Australian, which has the nickname "Flying Kangaroo" and Hong Kong flagship Cathay Pacific. In 1999, the Spanish national airline and the Finnish flagship joined the newly formed carrier union.

In 2009, the Mexican flagship joined the alliance, previously a member of Star Alliance, and a year later Russian airline entered the composition as a full participant. In 2014, also after leaving the Star Alliance, the Brazilian flagship joined Oneworld.

Oneworld in a single world of airports

Since one of the advantages of airline alliances is priority check-in for a flight and a convenient location, they all try to accumulate in the main ones. The combined alliance check-in counters can be found at international airport Barajas, Terminal 4 (Madrid, Spain), at the airport. J. F. Kennedy, Terminal 8 (New York, USA), Domodedovo (Moscow, Russia), Charles de Gaulle Airport (Paris, France) and others.

Unified corporate identity

Alliance member aircraft have a special logo on the front door. Also, the aircraft of the regular participants are dressed in a special livery, which occupies almost the entire hull of the aircraft and makes them visible at a great distance.

Oneworld Frequent Flyer Benefits

Depending on the status, passengers are provided with the following benefits:

  • priority check-in, the ability to choose a seat in the aircraft cabin, extra baggage.
  • lounge access superior comfort(more than 550 worldwide), fast-track security check.
  • use of the accumulated miles to travel around the world, upgrade the class of service, the ability to transfer the accumulated miles to another user.

The increase in the user's status and the increase in the list of privileges depends on the number of flights made by him in one calendar year.

Today we will detail the second of the three major global alliance Oneworld.

VOneworldare includedairberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Mexicana, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines.

http://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/

Oneworld Asia's major partners are Cathay Pacific. V North America American Airlines. In Europe, British Airway. Each company in the alliance has its own secrets. Competent use of the alliance will make it possible to make the most of the accumulated miles.

There is also a Russian participant in Oneworld - S7, or as they are often called in the old fashioned way, Siberia. S7 is not a big airline by world standards, but participation in the alliance gives it great opportunities... S7 has bases (hubs) in Moscow, Irkutsk and Novosibirsk, and for a frequent flyer living in the former CIS, S7 is most likely the most interesting airline. Their miles are useless, but using the miles of other members of the alliance to receive award flights on S7 flights is very profitable, especially given the extremely low tax charges.

our wealth of experience, the most rewarding miles at Oneworld are British Airways and American. American Airlines has a geographically regional premium table (like United in Star Alliance) and they charge minimum taxes on award tickets. As we wrote earlier, these taxes are often so high that they call into question the rationality of using miles to purchase a ticket. Accordingly, you can fly from Moscow to New York for 60,000 American Airlines miles (and in the off-season for 40,000) and charges about $ 60. I want to compare with AirFrance, where the same ticket costs 50,000 AirFrance miles and 500 dollars in taxes (AirFrance has many advantages, which we will discuss later).

British Airways (like ANA's Star Alliance) base premium ticket prices on the actual distance between departure point and destination (regardless of region). This makes it possible to fly short (ideally direct) with the fewest miles required. Thus, a flight C7 from Beijing to Yekaterinburg costs only 20,000 British Airways miles. The same flight would have cost American Airlines 40,000 miles since Beijing is in the Asian region and Yekaterinburg is in the European region.

Do not forget that British Airways is only beneficial for short flights (the number of miles required for a flight is not based on the distance between where and where you fly from), but on long intercontinental flights, it is better to collect miles from other partners such as American Airlines. (We will write more about the secrets of British Airways later.) For example, you can fly American Airlines, collect miles for British Airways, and spend those miles on S7.

VOneworldthere is three status: Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. We will tell you how to get Oneworld status later.
