Excerpt characterizing Loknya (Pskov region)

Finally, and most important of all, Alpatych knew that on the very day he ordered the headman to collect carts for the removal of the princess's wagon train from Bogucharovo, in the morning there was a gathering in the village, at which it was supposed not to be taken out and wait. Meanwhile, time did not endure. The leader, on the day of the prince's death, August 15th, insisted on Princess Marya that she should leave on the same day, as it was becoming dangerous. He said that after the 16th he was not responsible for anything. On the day of the death of the prince, he left in the evening, but promised to come to the funeral the next day. But the next day he could not come, because, according to the news he himself received, the French suddenly moved, and he only managed to take his family and everything of value from his estate.
For thirty years Bogucharov was ruled by the headman Dron, whom the old prince called Dronushka.
The drone was one of those strong physically and morally men who, as soon as they enter the age, will grow a beard, so, without changing, they live up to sixty - seventy years, without one gray hair or lack of a tooth, the same straight and strong at sixty years like thirty.
The drone, shortly after resettling to warm rivers, in which he participated, like others, was made the head of the mayor in Bogucharovo and since then has been impeccably in this position for twenty-three years. The peasants were more afraid of him than the master. Gentlemen, and the old prince, and the young, and the manager, respected him and jokingly called him a minister. Throughout his service, Drone was never drunk or sick; never, not after sleepless nights, not after any kind of work, did not show the slightest fatigue and, not knowing how to read, never forgot a single account of money and pounds of flour for the huge carts that he sold, and not a single heap of snakes for bread on every tenth of Bogucharov's fields.
This Drona Alpatych, who had arrived from the devastated Bald Mountains, called to him on the day of the prince's funeral and ordered him to prepare twelve horses for the princess's carriages and eighteen carts for the wagon train, which was to be raised from Bogucharov. Although the peasants were quitrent, the execution of this order could not meet with difficulty, according to Alpatych, since there were two hundred and thirty taxes in Bogucharov and the peasants were well-to-do. But the headman Dron, having listened to the order, silently lowered his eyes. Alpatych named to him the men whom he knew and from whom he ordered to take carts.
The drone replied that these men had horses in carts. Alpatych named other men, and those horses did not have, according to Dron, some were under government carts, others were powerless, while others died from lack of fodder. Horses, according to Dron, could not be assembled not only for the convoy, but also for the carriages.
Alpatych carefully looked at Dron and frowned. As Dron was an exemplary head man, so Alpatych not without reason ruled the prince's estates for twenty years and was an exemplary manager. He was eminently capable of understanding the needs and instincts of the people he was dealing with, and he was therefore an excellent manager. Glancing at Dron, he immediately realized that Dron's answers were not an expression of Dron's thought, but an expression of that general mood of the Bogucharov world, which the elder had already been captured. But at the same time, he knew that Dron, who had made a fortune and was hated by the world, had to oscillate between two camps - the master's and the peasant's. He noticed this hesitation in his gaze, and therefore Alpatych, frowning, moved closer to Dron.
- You, Dronushka, listen! - he said. - You do not tell me empty. His Excellency, Prince Andrei Nikolaich, ordered me to send all the people and not stay with the enemy, and the tsar's order is there. And whoever remains is a traitor to the king. Do you hear?
“I’m listening,” Dron replied, without looking up.
Alpatych was not satisfied with this answer.
- Hey, Dron, it will be bad! - said Alpatych, shaking his head.
- The power is yours! - said Dron sadly.
- Hey, Dron, leave it! - repeated Alpatych, removing his hand from his bosom and pointing it with a solemn gesture to the floor under Dron's feet. “I'm not like right through you, I can see through and through everything three yards under you,” he said, peering at the floor under Dron’s feet.
The drone was embarrassed, glanced quickly at Alpatych and dropped his eyes again.
“Leave the nonsense and tell the people to get ready to go to Moscow from their houses and prepare carts tomorrow morning for the princess’s wagon train, but don’t go to the gathering yourself.” Do you hear?
The drone suddenly fell at his feet.
- Yakov Alpatych, fire! Take the keys from me, save me for Christ's sake.
- Leave it! - said Alpatych sternly. `` I can see right through you for three yards under you, '' he repeated, knowing that his skill in following the bees, the knowledge of when to sow oats, and the fact that he had been able to please the old prince for twenty years, had long ago acquired his fame as a sorcerer and that the ability to see three arshins under a man is attributed to sorcerers.
The drone got up and wanted to say something, but Alpatych interrupted him:
- What are you thinking? Huh? .. What do you think? A?
- What should I do with the people? - said Dron. - Drilled at all. I tell them even that ...
- That's what I say, - said Alpatych. - Do they drink? He asked shortly.
- All drilled, Yakov Alpatych: another barrel was brought.
- So you listen. I’ll go to the police chief, and you’ll lead the people, so that they abandon it, and so that there are carts.

Military and peaceful accomplishments, surrounded by bewitching nature, left behind many memorable places, events and personalities

When a curious person wants to know information about the Loknyansky district, he usually finds only the most general statistical data. They will tell about the historically childhood age of the village, its location and transport interchanges. But relatively young herself Loknya of the Pskov region is old enough for any of its districts to include one of the many historical or just interesting places. The subject of our today's review was no exception.

Lockney's story

Before it appears on maps in 1901 Loknya of the Pskov region the oldest regional center, the Troitsa-na-Khlavitsa churchyard (now the village of Podberezye), was led. Founded by itself in 947, it can be called the center only with irony, because at that time it was lonely and few in number, at a decent distance from Pskov. And what kind of districts are there in the 10th century? The main source of income for the graveyards was the stay of travelers who transported goods along the famous route "from the Varangians to the Greeks." With the fading of the trade route to the XIII century, a large part of the Loknyansky district was included in the Kholmsky district of the Novgorod land, up to the XIV century. Due to its location on the western border of the Russian state, which is remembered on the coat of arms of the region, these lands were the first to stand in the way of foreign invaders. And only by 1667, with the end of the Russian-Polish war, the border moved further to the west, giving Lokna and the Pskov region a sigh of relief. And already in the XX century, during the construction of railways, a settlement grew up at one of the stations, which eventually became a regional center.

Lokney landmarks

At first glance, the area does not inspire hope, a small-town pastoral, everything interesting should be concentrated in the regional center ... Nothing of the kind! From the railway station at the Loknya railway station, recognized as an architectural monument, to Nicholas the Wonderworker, in which Mikhail Illarionovich Kutuzov was married. Just a dozen kilometers from the center of the district, in the ruined Bryanchaninov estate, there are two, representing a perplexing example of architecture of the early twentieth century, with the use of "futuristic" reinforced concrete technology. On the site of the Vlitsa churchyard, there is an ancient one, both for Lokni of the Pskov region, and in Russia in general the Transfiguration Church. Built of wood in the 15th century, it was renovated to stone in the 1770s to cater for the growing flock. According to legend, it was there that M.I. Kutuzov, and next to the church porch his brother Semyon is buried, as evidenced by a dilapidated granite monument. And as if confirming the glorious tradition of the guards of the Russian land, in the village of Chernushki stands a military memorial at the site of the feat of Alexander Matrosov.

Lokney Nature

The landscape is characterized by a swampy area with many lakes, predominantly occupying the western part of the area. The Loknya River, which originates from Loknovo, serves as a natural waterway. And 43% of the land is covered with coniferous-deciduous forests. In them you can find a modest population of forest dwellers, coexisting in a balanced ecosystem, which should be protected in every possible way from the shrinking environment of a technological civilization. For example, you should not pick a protected mushroom - Coral Blackberry. For the protection of which an encompassing Loknya of the Pskov region and part of the Novgorod region Polistovsky state reserve. As you might guess, the protected species include two other kingdoms. The fauna numbers 305 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. The flora consists of lichens, mosses and higher plants, 654 species in total. If you have been interested since childhood, what did those reserved forests look like with talking animals and miracles from Russian fairy tales, then you are just at the right place. Although silent pikes and uncommunicative golden eagles can undermine children's fantasies, the wonders of virgin nature still remain.

Settlement Loknya- the administrative center of the district of the same name, at the same time is one of the stations of the Oktyabrskaya railway on the Dno - Novosokolniki line. The settlement is located at the intersection of two highways running from Novgorod and Pskov to the city of Velikiye Luki.

History

The formation of the current regional center is associated with the laying of a railway line in the direction of Dno - Novosokolniki. But in the past, in the area of the village there was a Vlitsa churchyard, mentioned in an ancient chronicle from 1488. Now the area where he was previously located is part of the regional center Lokni. The mention of the settlement was associated with the passage of Moscow officials through its territory, heading to Novgorod or Pskov with important decrees.

At one time, Vlitsy was a famous settlement. Its expansive Sunday market and house of worship were frequented by residents from all over the surrounding area. A collection of warriors for further service was also held in the settlement. The number of visitors increased after a new church was opened in Vlice, where religious holidays, baptisms, commemorations and other rituals were held on a large scale.

After about three centuries, the wooden church was demolished due to its dilapidation. At the end of the 18th century, the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church, built of stone, appeared in the vacant place. Now the prosperous Vlitsy have become part of Lockney. The village got its name from the hydronym next to the flowing river. According to one version, the word "Loknya" in translation from the Finnish language is called "swampy" or "damp place".

On the eve of the First World War, the current regional center was both a railway center and a trading place. On its territory there were many shops with food and industrial goods. After the arrival of Soviet power, the agrarian industry began to actively develop, and collective farms were formed.

During the Great Patriotic War, the village, like the entire region, was occupied by German troops. Many buildings were destroyed then, collective farms were ruined. In the post-war period, starting in 1945, the development of the village began. A kindergarten, a cinema, residential buildings appeared. Later, a brick factory, a sawmill and a wool-combing workshop were opened.
