Vietnam, Hoi An. Well the streets of the old town

Vietnam Hoi An: general information

Hoi An is a small town in central Vietnam on the banks of the Thubon River. Hoi An's history began over 2000 years ago, and in the 16th century Hoi An was an important port and shopping center South-East Asia... Merchants from Europe, China, Japan sailed here.

Now Hoi An is called a city-museum under open air: the city has preserved ancient houses in the Chinese style, temples, meeting houses, a Japanese bridge. More than 800 buildings in the city are of historical value. Since 1999, Hoi An has been under the protection of UNESCO.

The chic Hoi An Beach is 4 km from Hoi An Old Town. The road to it runs past rice fields and houses local residents.

Hoi An Old Town is simply made for romantic walks... The central streets of the old city every day from 8:30 to 11:00 and from 15:00 to 21:30 are blocked for transport and the floor of the city turns into a kind of Walking street ๐Ÿ™‚

Weather in Hoi An. Best time to visit

There are two seasons in Hoi An: dry season and rainy season. The dry season begins in January - February and ends in August. The rainy season starts in September and lasts until December. The largest amount of precipitation occurs in October - November. Heavy rains, typhoons and even floods are possible during these months. Houses in the old town of Hojna are sometimes flooded up to the second floor!

It is cool in Hoi An in winter and very hot in summer. The hottest and driest period is July - August.

What is the best time to visit Hoi An?

If your priority beach vacation, then for a vacation in Hoi An it is better to choose period from June to August. In September - November there are strong storms, and in winter the sea temperature is cool.

For sightseeing rest in Hoi An it is better to choose period from January to April, itโ€™s not so hot yet and itโ€™s nice to walk around the city.

We rested in Hoi An at the end of May: there was a wild heat outside (more than +40!), But the sea was still cool.

At the end of May, there was a wild heat in Hoi An. During the day, there were no people on the streets at all! Everyone except me hid under air conditioning in hotels or sunbathed on the beach

How to Get to Hoi An

From railway station Da Nang to Hoi An will also have to take a taxi or a pre-booked transfer.

By bus

The best way to get to Hoi An is by bus. Buses in Vietnam are good, at night in the slip bass you can even sleep ๐Ÿ™‚

Approximate cost of bus tickets to Hoi An:

  • Nha Trang - Hoi An - 200,000 VND
  • Dalat - Hoi An - 300,000 VND
  • Da Nang - Hoi An - 80,000 VND
  • Hue - Hoi An - 100,000 VND
  • Hanoi - Hoi An - 320,000 VND
  • Hongshimin - Hoi An - 320,000 VND

We went by bus Nha Trang - Hoi An. We left at 19:00 and at 8 am were at the bus station in Hoi An. If not for the repair of the road, we would have arrived a couple of hours earlier. I advise you to buy bus tickets in advance, especially if the trip is higher on weekends or holidays (by the way, during the long Vietnamese holidays, the cost of travel on buses and trains officially rises by 20-50%). We bought tickets for the Nha Trang - Hoi An bus two days before departure and there were almost no seats, we got the last seats at different ends of the bus.

Transport in Hoi An, how to travel around Hoi An

Hoi An Old Town is quite small and easily accessible on foot. Or you can take a walk in such a carriage - a cycle rickshaw ๐Ÿ™‚ I have never ridden in this way, I really feel sorry for the Vietnamese pedaling ๐Ÿ™

Cycle rickshaw is one of the ways to get around Hoi An
Cycle rickshaws are waiting for tourists on the waterfront

Longer distances can be traveled:

By bike. Many hotels provide bicycles to their guests absolutely free of charge. Or you can rent a bike from tour offices for $ 1-3 per day.

Here they offer some expensive bicycles for rent: 50,000 dong, it's like taking off the floor of a bike ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe a bike with beer right away?
Tourists and locals alike ride bicycles in Hoi An

On a bike. Renting a bike will cost $ 5-6 per day. Often they don't even ask for anything as collateral.

By taxi. In Vietnam, an inexpensive taxi, just tell the driver right away that you only go by the meter. A taxi from the city center to Hoi An Beach will cost 3-4 dollars.

Where to stay in Hoi An: hotels in Hoi An

Hoi An - popular tourist town and there are a lot of hotels in it ๐Ÿ™‚ The cost of rooms in Hoi An hotels is slightly higher than in other cities. But this does not mean that you cannot find a room in Hoi An for $ 10 a day. Those who are looking will always find ๐Ÿ™‚ We wanted a more comfortable stay in Hoi An, so we rented hotel rooms in the price range of $ 20-30 per day.

In Hoi An, in addition to large hotels, accommodation in Homestays is very popular. Home Stay - private houses in which the owners rent out rooms. Now most of these houses have turned into mini-hotels. More details about Hoi An hotels:

I advise you to book a room in Hoi An in advance especially if you are visiting the city for weekends or holidays. You can choose and book a hotel in Hoi An on these sites, just choose the best price ๐Ÿ™‚

2. In Hojnai you can and should enjoy gentle South China Sea, lie on sun loungers under an umbrella on the beach, dine in fish restaurants on the shore, drink white wine and stroll along the long and uncrowded Hoi An Beach. More details here:

4. Ride on small Vietnamese boats down the river and run flower with a candle for luck. Such flowers can be bought on the bridge for only $ 1, and sometimes even for $ 0.5 (otherwise someone wrote that these flowers are sold for "big money" ๐Ÿ™‚).

This is how romantic you can go for a ride in a small boat in the evening and put a flower down the river for good luck ...

Food: shops, cafes, restaurants in Hoi An

There are no large stores, such as in Hoi An. The nearest supermarket Big C is located 30 km from Hoi An in Da Nang. There are many small shops in the city where you can buy water, cookies, chocolate, bread, alcohol and other little things. Meat, fish, seafood must be bought at the market. We bought vegetables and fruits at the layouts along the Hoi An - Da Nang road. In the central market, fruit prices seemed to us very high.

Hoi An will delight lovers of sweets and coffee. There are a lot of coffee shops and pastry shops in the city, where you can drink not only Vietnamese coffee (which is very tasty, but still sometimes you want a huge cup of cappuccino), but also other types of coffee ๐Ÿ™‚ And, of course, a bite with a cake ๐Ÿ™‚

  • A piece of cake - from 50,000 VND
  • Espresso coffee - 25,000 VND
  • Cappuccino - 35,000 VND
  • Latte coffee - 40,000 VND

Hoi An is a gourmet paradise. It is in Hoi An that you can taste dishes that are not represented in other regions of Vietnam. For example, noodles with Khao Lau meat, crispy Hoi-style pancakes with shrimp or meat, crispy Wonton.

A signature dish in Hoi An is Cao Lau pork noodles. It costs a little more than a dollar in the shop

There is a great variety of cafes in Hoi An, for every taste and budget: you can eat both in Vietnamese cafes on the market, in cheap cafes with plastic chairs near the river, and in pretty restaurants with European service and a cozy interior.

Every evening on the banks of the river, makers in Vietnamese begin to work ๐Ÿ™‚

In the late afternoon, plastic tables are set up along the river for dinner.
After 5 pm, Vietnamese makers start working, where you can have a very inexpensive dinner and enjoy the views of the city.

We preferred to dine at the pretty tourist restaurants on the waterfront. In addition to traditional Choina dishes, fish or shrimps were always ordered. We tried to choose an institution with draft beer. Yes, I forgot to say that another Hoi An trick is cheap and decent draft beer ๐Ÿ™‚ A small glass of beer will cost only 2,000 - 5,000 VND (0.1 - 0.25 dollars)! Well, how not to drink here? ๐Ÿ™‚ We went from one cafe to another tasting beers. So much fun we had evenings in Hoi An ๐Ÿ™‚

Numerous waterfront restaurants in Hoi An

I always choose beautiful restaurants for dinner.
And I always look for more people to sit in the restaurant.

There are many sewing workshops in the city, where they will sew any thing for you in a day, be it an evening dress or a business suit. And, of course, dresses - skirts - sundresses can be simply bought in numerous stores. The cost of dresses is from $ 20. Beautiful evening dresses to the floor - 50-100 dollars. Eh, itโ€™s a pity that I didnโ€™t buy anything ... Well, where should I wear evening dresses for or for?

During our trip to Vietnam, I fell madly in love with two cities: and Hoi An. They are so different, but so cool!

Is Hoi An Suitable for Vacation?- definitely YES!

Is Hoi An suitable for living, for wintering?- for me rather NO than yes. There are no large supermarkets in the city, and you can't run over 60 km for groceries ... And houses for rent are mostly rented among rice fields. Itโ€™s cool to live in the fields, but Iโ€™m not a fan of village life, Iโ€™ll get bored in a month. But the neighboring city of Danang, I would consider for wintering.

Subscribe to blog updates and my channel youtube.com, there is still a lot of information on, and!

Let's face it - Hoi An, with its restored old houses, hundreds of shops and temples, is an interesting place! Now protected by UNESCO, once the main Vietnamese trade center for silk, porcelain, pepper, cinnamon and medicinal plants, Hoi An is a wonderful and unusual city. And here are the sights you can find here:

Hoi An old town

Traces of Hoi An's thriving 16th and 17th century southeast Asian trading port are today concentrated in the Old City, an open-air museum where architecture is a unique blend of East and West. The architectural heritage of the area is Chinese temples, a Japanese bridge, pagodas, wooden houses, French colonial houses and old canals. Although the large-scale trading activity has long since moved to another location, this part is still of great interest.

Two facts about Hoi An Old Town is that it is very small, so you can easily get around it on foot, and the traffic here is quite adequate, compared to other more major cities Vietnam.
Some streets of the Old Town are allowed to be navigated only on foot, by bicycle or motorcycle, while others - exclusively on foot. These factors make the Old City even more attractive for most travelers, especially those from the frantic Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi.

Many buildings in the Old City were built over a hundred years ago and are "very Chinese". Especially touching are wooden signs with the names of shops and hotels, with gilded Chinese characters - this reflects the fact that a lot of Chinese have lived in Hoi An since ancient times. Traditions are still alive in the Old Town.
Even though many of the old shops have been transformed into modern tourist boutiques, including countless tailor shops, gift shops, art galleries, restaurants and cafes, they have all been refurbished with care to preserve the spirit of yesteryear.

Hoi An Riverside

The Hoi An (Riverside) coastal strip is very beautiful, especially at night as it is lit by strange old fashioned lanterns, making the area very atmospheric and very romantic.
Of all the streets in Old Town running from east to west, Riverside is the busiest. The traditional buildings and shops of this alley have welcomed foreign merchants since the days when the city was known as Hai Pho ("seaside town"). Currently, the street welcomes, perhaps, tourists. Seemingly untouched by time, Riverside architecture is built up to 200 years old and is a wonderful blend of Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and colonial styles. Those who would like to see the oldest buildings should go further inland, where they can find, for example, a 15th century pagoda.

Michonne Shrine (Mแปน Sฦกn)

Michonne is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a great example of architecture ancient civilization Champa (or Champa), which once occupied the territory of the middle and southern part of Vietnam.

Michonne is a complex that was a political center and a royal burial ground. The complex consisted of more than 70 buildings dedicated to Hindu gods and goddesses (for example, Shiva, the patron deity of the Champa kings). Michon's buildings are made of red brick and sandstone, everything is very skillful and delicate - just a miracle! Like many historical places all over the world, Michonne was destroyed by time and wars and was forgotten for many years until it was remembered and restored by the French in 1898. Unfortunately, one of the last wars caused great damage to the complex - the Americans bombed this area, because they knew that the Viet Cong were hiding there (they, the poor, believed that the enemies would not encroach on the holy places, but no!)

However, most of the central complex survived, and the destroyed parts have already been rebuilt.

Overall, this sanctuary resembles other similar sites in Southeast Asia, such as Angkor Wat in Cambodia. You should definitely visit Michonne and touch the history. Temple complex works all year round. The best time to visit - early in the morning, before it got too hot and until the crowd was piling up.

Location: in the valley in Duy Tan, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province (about 40 km from Hoi An)

Hoi An Central Market

With its scent of herbs and spices and the vibrant colors of Vietnamese silk, this market is definitely a tourist attraction. The prices here, however, are overpriced, especially at the kiosks closer to the entrance, so make your way deeper into the bazaar to make the most profitable purchase.

The market sells a lot of food: spices, exotic fresh fruits and vegetables, a huge selection of fresh fish.
The market is famous for its tailors who can make you a suit very quickly, in less than a day. Souvenir shops and shops of local hunters and artisans - all this is also here. The market is open during the day, but it is better to arrive in the morning. They begin to trade fish somewhere from 7:00, since fishermen only bring their catch - the opportunity to buy the freshest fish. Wear closed shoes to the market as the floor in the market is often damp and sticky, especially if you visit the fish department.
And here, it happens, it smells just disgusting (especially where meat is sold), but, nevertheless, this is still a sight! Well, yes, be prepared to bargain. The first price named by the trader will necessarily be overpriced, and that is exactly how it is. Do we need it? We bargain until we lose our pulse, otherwise we will leave all the money there!

Location: on Nguyen Hue and Tran Phu Streets, on the banks of the Thu Bon River

Hoi An Museum of History & Culture

Most of the museum's objects date back to the 16th and 18th centuries, although exhibits represent historical and cultural events before and after those turbulent trading years. The museum has a collection of ceramics and historical photos and drawings, a number of Cham artifacts, including bronze temple bells and gongs.

The museum is located in the picturesque Quan Am Pagoda, one of the oldest in Vietnam (built in 1653). Overall, the museum's relics span 2,000 years of Hoi An's history.
The museum also offers interesting information heritage of the region, including learning more about traditional funeral rites (and look at very old tombs). Some of the exhibits are explained in English, but not very detailed, so it would be wise to bring your own guide.

Opening hours: 8:00 - 17:00

Location: 7 Nguyen Hue

I will continue my favorite part of "Traveling in Vietnam". Now we went to explore the center of the country and the first city was Hoi an(Hoi An, Hoi An). It is a small town on the coast of the South China Sea, just 25-30 km from Da Nang. Today you will learn how to get to Hoyne, what to see, where to go and where to live. Read on, it will be interesting and again, a lot of photos.

A bit of the history of the city. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Hoi An was of great importance as an international trade center. At that time it was called Faifo. Now about old name only the taxi service of the same name resembles the city. Later, the trade center moved to Da Nang, but in the heart of Hoi An, the Old City, the spirit of the old trading city was preserved. In those days, many ships entered the port of Hoyna, most of which were from Japan, China, Holland and India.

Some merchants stayed in Hoi An up to six months, opened shops here, where they sold all kinds of goods. I would like to add that little has changed in the city since the 16-17th century, some sights have survived to this day.

Hoi An is called an open-air museum city, it is listed as a heritage world heritage UNESCO. There are over 800 buildings in the Old Town area historical significance... You can endlessly walk along the streets of the city! Correctly noted in one of the comments on my Instagram: "Hoi An is a city for girls :-)". This, of course, does not mean that men have nothing to do here. It's just that girls are more susceptible to such small, cozy, romantic and insanely soulful cities. I'm not an exception:-). Walking around the city, I could not breathe the atmosphere, I wanted to walk in silence and โ€œlistenโ€ at home, imagining how everything was a couple of centuries ago. The presence of free Wi-Fi throughout the Old Town is indicative of modernity :-).

What to see in Hoi An?

Since the whole city is an attraction, it is difficult to single out any individual attractions in Hoi An... The greatest concentration of attractions is concentrated in the Old Town area. Since Hoi An is a small town, one day will be enough to get to know it, but I know firsthand that people stay here longer.

Here you can taste lotus tea

You can just walk the streets of the Old Town, or you can buy a ticket for 120,000 VND (5.5, USD) and go to some houses. In total, there are 22 most famous and popular places to visit in the Old Town (according to the newsletter). With a ticket, you can visit only 5 of them. Detailed information you will receive it at the points of purchase of tickets, and along with the ticket you will also receive a card indicating and brief description attractions.

Cashbox

Little trick: after 19-00 admission to the attractions is free and you can visit them without buying a ticket. For example, for the entrance to the Japanese bridge, one ticket will be torn off from you, and after 7, the entrance is free for everyone. We also noticed that during the day, you can also walk around some houses freely during your lunch break, but I will not say the exact time. Now I'll tell you a little about some of the sights of the Old City:

Covered Japanese Bridge is not only a landmark, but also a symbol of the city. It is he who is depicted on many postcards, magazines, notebooks. The Japanese Bridge was built in 1593 and has remained in excellent condition to this day. It was built by craftsmen from the Japanese community of Hoi An in order to connect the Japanese quarter with the Chinese one.

The bridge is especially beautiful in the evening, when it is illuminated in different colors.

This is a favorite place for newlyweds and couples in love. Many come to Hoi An especially for photo shoots.

Old houses of Tang Ki, Kun Tang, Fung Hung and many others. These are mostly private houses, whose families have lived in them for more than one generation. The sizes of such houses are small, but the owners are happy to talk about every detail of the house. You can get here with a general ticket. To visit some houses, tickets are not needed and we could easily walk there looking at the details of the houses.

There are also many temples and pagodas... Some will require a ticket to visit, but no one will forbid you to take photographs of the territory.

Museum of ceramics, Hoi An History and Culture Museum, Folklore Museum- thanks to these museums, you can get even closer to the culture of the city.

Wooden figurines are a great gift from Vietnam

In fact, there are many more interesting and exciting things in the Old Town. Explore and find what will inspire you. This city will definitely not leave you indifferent.

Maybe a cup of coffee?

In addition to everything, I want to separately highlight a large number of sewing workshops... Many tourists come here to sew suits, dresses, blouses, skirts made of natural silk, linen or cotton. If the model is simple, then the work can be done in a couple of hours.

Men's suits are sewn in a day, and their cost will be from $ 80.

There are also many shoe workshops where you can buy ready-made shoes or, again, make to order. The cost of leather shoes starts at $ 20. I think this is very good price for a pair of quality shoes.

Leather, lots of leather!

Oh, how much jewelry stores: one is better than the other. I could not resist and left them with new jewelry. No wonder my mother says that I am a magpie-crow

One of the shops in Hoi An will offer you a bamboo bike or bag.

Hoi An Kitchen- this is generally a separate conversation. In the many cafes and restaurants that light their lights for visitors in the evenings, you can taste incredible culinary masterpieces. After all, Hoi An is a city of artists and craftsmen. And the chefs here are also artists. A unique feature of Hoi An's restaurants are cooking classes or cooking classes. You can learn how to cook the most popular Vietnamese food. The cost of these courses starts at $ 15 per person. You just need to ask if there are courses in the cafe and the job is almost done!

I would also like to show you the art galleries of Hoi An. I really liked them. My hands were itching to buy one of the works, but Gleb stopped me.

I would also like to highlight the photobook of Vietnam. It shows Vietnam in faces: from children to the elderly, as well as the nature of the country. I was very impressed by the book. The photos are insanely beautiful and, most importantly, vivid. The feeling that the person is looking directly at you. If you see this book somewhere, I strongly advise you to take a look.

And before useful information on how to get to Hoi An and where to live, a little evening city.

How to get to Hoi An?

As always, there are several options: plane, train and bus.

From Da Nang- by bus ($ 2-3) or by taxi (about $ 10-12 per car).

From Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi there are direct flights to Da Nang, from where you can take a taxi, bus or rented bike to Hoi An.

From Nha Trang can be reached by bus. The distance of 530 km on a bike will be very difficult to drive, but the bus from Nha Trang leaves at 19-00 and in the morning you can be on the spot. We used the services of the bus company The Sinh Tourist and were at the place at 6 in the morning. The nearest railway station is in Da Nang.

Where to stay in Hoi An?

The hotel infrastructure is very well developed: from budget hotels for 10-15 dollars / day to luxury villas for 500 dollars / day. We chose a beautiful villa just 2 km from the Old Town - Aquarium Villa, where breakfast, free bike rental and a large spacious room with a balcony were included in the price. By the way, this hotel is close to Thanh Ha pottery village... This is another attraction of the city.

Agoda.com also offers good prices for hotels and guesthouses in Hoi An. You can rent an AirBnB apartment. When you rent on AirBnB, you can take advantage of my $ 21 discount on your first booking.
It is better to compare hotels through the HotelsCombined.com service, it checks prices for a dozen booking systems.

I think you have now learned more about the city and will find the opportunity and time to visit it. Follow the news in

Hoi An (Vietnam) is located on the banks of the Thu Bon River, south of Da Nang (30 km). With one-story tiled houses, narrow streets, endless beaches, excellent diving and many interesting sights, this city attracts tourists from all over the world.

Historians claim that the first settlements on this land appeared more than two thousand years ago. Hoi An, which is under the protection of UNESCO, is often called. There are over eight hundred historical buildings: temples, trading houses and Chinese houses. The town is famous for its sewing workshops and souvenir shops.

This Vietnamese city provides tourists with the opportunity to choose a variety of hotels to stay. Hoi An (Vietnam) has both modest hotels and luxurious five-star apartments. There is no public transport here, people move around the city on foot or by bicycle. Bus tickets to neighboring settlements or for excursions sold in hotels.

Tourist season

You can visit Vietnam (Hoi An in particular) at any time of the year, but the period from April to September is most suitable for a trip. During this time, the beach season is open. The air warms up to +30 ... +35 ยฐ C. The rest of the time a strong wind blows from the sea, the sky is covered with clouds, torrential rains begin. Despite this, the air temperature does not drop below +23 ยฐ C.

From the second half of September to January it is very hot here, but at this time hotels, as a rule, provide a significant discount on accommodation (almost thirty percent). In winter, Vietnam is also very warm (+24 ยฐ C). In the city of Hoi An (Vietnam), the rainy season lasts from September to December, the main share of precipitation occurs in October - November. Typhoons and floods are frequent during this period.

Beaches

Fans of beach holidays feel quite comfortable in this city. Two kilometers from it are spread sandy beaches... It's easy to get to them. You can rent a motorcycle or bicycle, order a taxi or rent a shuttle bus for free.

If you are tired of travel, we recommend that you stay at one of the hotels, which are located right on the seashore. You can choose the beach you like. Hoi An (Vietnam) has two most popular places recreation - Cua Da Beach and An Bang Beach. They are located on the same coast and have only a conditional border.

In fairness, it should be said that the beaches are not very well equipped - you can rent a sun lounger, use free parking for a bicycle or motorcycle. But there is practically no water entertainment here. Nevertheless, the beaches of Hoi An resemble the paintings of famous landscape painters - sandy, almost deserted, clean. In some places you can see casuarin trees and palms leaning towards the water, as well as fishing boats.

The cleanest Kua Dai beach delights with its white sand. Even walking along it will give you pleasure. These places seem to be made for quiet rest and contemplation of the magnificent nature. On the island of Cham, the closest to the city, a diving school accepts everyone. This kind active rest very popular in Hoi An.

You don't need to rent a taxi or bike to visit the city's attractions. All of them are very compactly located on the streets of the Old Town. It is quite possible to get around them on foot.

Old city

Vietnam is famous for many amazing monuments of history and architecture. Hoi An is no exception. Its Old City occupies a small area (0.5 hectares), limited by the Cam Pho, Minh An and Son Phong quarters. The most interesting and most significant buildings are located in the Minh An quarter.

Since the 17th century, the city of Hoi An (Vietnam) was international port central Vietnam. During six months of the year ships from other countries came to its harbor to hold fairs, exchange goods, and buy and sell. Many traders from Japan, China, Holland, India stayed here and built their quarters in the traditional style. The old town was practically preserved in its original form. There are ancient temples and pagodas, residential buildings and bridges, piers and narrow streets, which are arranged in a checkerboard pattern.

Japanese covered bridge

Russian tourists have already discovered Vietnam for a long time. Hoyan attracts them primarily with its unique architecture. Famous bridge connects Nguen Thi Minh Khai and Tran Phu Streets. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century. In the past, the Chinese community lived on one side of the structure and the Japanese community occupied the other. He became peculiar to these peoples.

On the north side there is a small but very beautiful temple - Chua Kou. It's funny that during the day the inspection of the monument is paid, and in the evening everyone can visit it for free.

Museum of History and Culture

This small museum will allow you to learn more about the history of the ancient city. Its central exposition consists of valuable exhibits previously stored at the Quan Am Pagoda. Here are collected photographs and furniture, bells and dishes, an ancient altar. There is also a wonderful pond in this museum, which is inhabited by goldfish.

Carpenter village

Many memorable places cities are famous throughout Vietnam. Hoi An and its carpenter village, Kim Bong, are well known in the country. Since the 16th century, it has played an important role in the reconstruction of almost all artistic and architectural structures in Vietnam. The magnificent craftsmen are known for the creation of unique pieces of art, the finest wood carvings, and exquisite products from raw materials.

The village itself is very picturesque - the pagodas and family houses will surely be of interest to tourists.

Tang Ki House

Most travelers who come to Vietnam, Hoi An (reviews confirm this) amazes with the variety of monuments and their unusual architecture. Tang Ki's house was built over two centuries ago. It features strikingly beautiful architecture and is one of the best preserved

Today this house is residential, and for several decades it has been owned by the same family. At the same time, since the 80s of the XX century, it has been turned into a museum. Guided tours are conducted by the owner of the house. He communicates with tourists in English. The house is small, so you can inspect it pretty quickly. If you own English language, then you can stay here - the owner will tell you in detail about the history of the building and its inhabitants.

Tran family chapel

This chapel was built at the beginning of the 19th century. It reflects the life of the aristocrats of Vietnam and cultural values. The building is a very popular attraction today, tourists from all over the world come to look at it.

It got its name in honor of the owner - Tran Tu Nkhuk. In 1802, he built a house and a chapel to make it a place of veneration for the ancestors. The graceful structure has a distinct Chinese style. Traditional gifts and antiques are kept here.

Hoi An (Vietnam): reviews of tourists

Travelers remember this city with warmth and admiration. Many were especially struck by night city... With the onset of evening, all the streets are illuminated with colorful lights. Chinese lanterns are everywhere, which create a festive mood.

The beaches of the resort delight guests with their cleanliness. True, sophisticated travelers note that they are not well-equipped. Anyone wishing to relax alone can visit wild beaches, on which there are practically no tourists. The sand and water are as clear as the rest of the coast.

Hoi An is a seaside resort in central Vietnam and a historical landmark at the same time. Hoi An in Vietnam is one of the few old cities that survived the Vietnam War. An open-air museum, as many call it.

Typical Hoi An

Hoi An is no longer a city that no one has ever heard of. So far, mostly only Europeans and Americans travel to Hoyan for vacation, while ours are content with Nha Trang and Mui Ne. And those who are richer go to. But the Russians are now gradually beginning to move away from the crowded Nha Trang, exploring new resorts in Vietnam.

What to see and do in Hoi An

There are several features in Hoi An, for which more and more tourists come to the city every year. What's interesting in Hoi An:

  • Unique Old city
  • 10 km deserted beach
  • Rice fields

Hoi An City

Hoi An's attractions are concentrated in the center on several narrow streets of the old city. In fact, the entire center is one big attraction. Since here are preserved houses of 100 years ago, built by the Chinese and Japanese.

To see Hoi An, you just need to come to the center of the river and stroll slowly through the streets, looking into endless shops and cafes.

Hoi An landmarks

As for paid attractions, there are just over 20 of them. The city has an unusual ticket system. In tourist information centers buy a multi-ticket for 120 thousand dongs ($ 6) with the right to visit 5 different places. Then, each time at the entrance, they will tear off one small ticket from the big ticket.

We didnโ€™t buy such a ticket and didnโ€™t see any paid attractions for one simple reason - there were just a lot of tourists. Got into Vietnamese New Year... In addition to hundreds of Euro-tourists, thousands of Vietnamese tourists appeared on the streets of Hoyang and it was pointless to go anywhere.

Japanese bridge

Hoi An's main attraction is the Japanese Bridge. The bridge is notable for the fact that it was built in 1593 and connected the Japanese quarter with the Chinese one. The exterior has remained unchanged despite several restorations.

By spending one of the tickets, you can walk across this unique bridge. We decided not to go in, the bridge looks more spectacular from the outside.

Embankment

The embankment is the most nice place in the town. You can walk, looking at fancy fishing boats with "eyes". Periodically, however, you will be distracted from contemplation by the Vietnamese with the words โ€œYu! Boat trip "- offer to take a boat ride on the river. I will not say exactly the prices, but I read somewhere that it was necessary to assemble a group. The more people, the cheaper.

Or dine in one of the many cafes on the waterfront overlooking the river. There are even restaurant boats.

Hoi An beaches

A long, uncrowded beach, which is much superior to the beaches of Nha Trang and even more so Mui Ne. Nice little sand and a large selection of restaurants and cafes in the area of โ€‹โ€‹the old town and in the coastal area near the sea.

When is the best time to go to Hoi An

The beach season is from April to September. It is during these months that the beaches will appear in in the best possible way and you can swim in the calm clear sea. The hottest month is May. In late autumn, winter and early spring, the sea is stormy, the water becomes cloudy, and a lot of garbage is taken out to the beach. Bathing water temperatures are too cold during these months. Also, in the off-season, there are regular rains and sometimes even flooding of the city center.

Rice fields and villages

Other attractions in Hoi An are rice fields and countryside. You can ride a bike through the fields and Vietnamese villages, combining such a walk with beach vacation and a cultural program.

Rice fields

Many hotels in Hoi An offer bicycles free of charge to their guests. I drive with great pleasure every day rice fields... Reminds of childhood, such pleasant sensations, as if he moved in time 20 years ago, when he rode a bicycle in the neighboring villages at the dacha.

Another thing I like about these fields is the calm and fresh air. Such silence, when you can hear the sound of the wind, the singing of birds, the croaking of frogs, the rustle of foliage. Such seemingly simple things, but they are very rare in Vietnam!

The beds, they are also the beds in Vietnam

Dogs, buffaloes and other animals

Driving through villages, I was at first afraid of dogs. Yes, yes, there are dogs in Hoyan, unlike many other Vietnamese cities. But as it turned out, dogs here do not bark at bicycles and bikes. During all the time I was riding the bike, not a single dog paid attention to me. But we were barked when we once walked through the village. And also buffaloes graze on the fields, roosters and geese walk along country roads, and sometimes you can see a snake.

Shops, markets and prices in Hoi An

The nearest large supermarket is Big C in Da Nang. In Hoyang itself, with normal shops, it was strained. The largest supermarket with fixed prices is the mini A-mart in the city center. There is another small supermarket on the way to the bass station. The rest of the shops are small and dirty with 2 times overpriced. For example, one aunt with a smile wanted to sell me milk for 70 thousand dongs. Given that the real price is 30 thousand ($ 1.5). My arguments are that Iโ€™m not the first day in Vietnam and I know the prices didnโ€™t work, I didnโ€™t sell it even for 40 thousand. Therefore, if you come to Hayan for a long time, in the first days you will have to go to Big C in Da Nang and shop well, as they did we. You can get to Da Nang by bus for 20 thousand dong, the bus takes almost to Big C.

How to get to Hoi An

You can get from Moscow to Hoi An by plane. You will need to fly to international Airport Da Nang. Usually tourists fly with a transfer in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. Flights to Da Nang buy here... How to get from the airport, we described in the article.

Also, many travelers make a stop here during their journey from the north of Vietnam to the south or vice versa. On this site you can order tickets for intercity buses and trains: by bus from Nha Trang or by train from Hanoi.

Where to stay in Hoi An

We would recommend choosing hotels near the beach if you are visiting in high season and would like to swim in the sea. There are also very decent hotels in the city. But keep in mind, if you choose a hotel in the city, that the sea is 5 km away, that is, you will have to get there somehow, by taxi, bike or bicycle.

Hoi An reviews

This is how we saw Hoi An. Reviews of tourists about Hoi An are only enthusiastic. We, as always, have mixed reviews. It is interesting, of course, to wander around ancient city... I liked the cycling trips in the rice fields. As for the beach, the inexperienced traveler will love it. Many are delighted with the Zoklet beach in Nha Trang. Hoian Beach is the same and even better.

We believe that it is definitely worth coming to Hoi An City. If you have a trip to Vietnam, be sure to take 2-3 days to explore Hoiyan. There will be nothing more to do there. If only lying on the beach.

If you have a choice of where to go from Nha Trang, Dalat or Hoi An, then choose. Since it will be more interesting there, the sights are more diverse, parks, waterfalls, temples. And in Hoyan, roughly speaking, except for 200 shabby yellow houses, there is nothing special to watch.

What did not like in Hoi An

  • A lot of tourists
  • There are no normal shops. And in those that are, prices are too high
  • Motorbikes ride through the crowd and beep incessantly

If the first circumstance is related to the Vietnamese holidays, then as far as motorcycles in the old city are concerned, it pissed us off a lot. Imagine that you are walking through the Hermitage, but the mopeds interfere with contemplating art, which every minute give you a disgusting honking signal from behind so that you make way for them. And that's not counting the heavy flow of tourists ...

We read that earlier, at certain hours in the morning and in the evening, the movement of any Vehicle at certain hours. But now this rule was either canceled altogether, or in honor of the Vietnamese NG, no one followed this.

If, in honor of the holiday, the city authorities allowed motorbikes to pass to the old city without restrictions, then I have no logical explanation for this. Don't the authorities understand that the flow of tourists will triple during the holidays? It's like opening the traffic of cars along the Old Arbat on Moscow City Day. Although, this is Vietnam, there is much that is not logical for a sane person.
