10 most mystical places. Yonaguni monument, Japan

In our world there are so many mysterious, unexplored and creepy things that defy any explanation. And attempts to explore existing secrets often end sadly and tragically. And today we will tell our story about the places that still cause sacred horror and fear in people.

Winchester House

This eerie and complex home is located in San Jose, California, USA. Among the locals, he deservedly enjoys a bad reputation, they try to bypass him. What can not be said about the thousands of tourists just eager to get acquainted with its terrible history and wanting to tickle their nerves. The Winchester House has been under construction for over 30 years and has undergone some changes at the whim of the future owner. On this venture, Sarah Winchester spent almost all the enormous fortune that her father-in-law, the creator of the famous brand of weapons, made. After all, it is well known that his brainchild, the Winchester rifle, conquered the West and played a decisive role in the outcome of the American Civil War. At the same time, Oliver, thanks to lucrative contracts with the government, became one of the richest people in America. However, fabulous money does not always bring happiness and peace in the family. First, the father-in-law dies, then the daughter of Sarah Annie, who has lived in this world for several months. And five years later, the young woman's husband, William, also passed away. Shocked by the loss of loved ones, Sarah Winchester, who has almost lost her mind, turns to a psychic for help. And the fortune-teller, without further ado, tells her that the famous and ill-fated rifle is to blame for all the troubles, due to which many people died. For this reason, a curse is imposed on the Winchester family. And on the advice of the medium, Sarah goes west, to San Jose, on the trail, as the fortune-teller assured, the ghost of her husband. It is here that she will soon build the famous multi-storey "trap" for evil spirits that haunt her family and do not leave Sarah alone on moonlit nights. The woman made up the project of the house, all its details herself, drawing future sketches on napkins. For some reason Sarah Winchester did not like architects ...

I must say that everything in the rebuilt Winchester house is unusual and strange. For example, there was a specialized room where Sarah consulted with the spirits and where no one dared to enter. The house had 40 stairs that did not lead anywhere, but only rested against the ceiling. In one of the rooms, the window was in the floor (by the way, this innovation will be adopted by the designers). Almost all bathrooms had glass doors. And everywhere, meaning the number of buildings, figure "13" appeared. That was the number of windows in the rooms, steps on the stairs. Therefore, the Winchester house resembled a kind of intricate labyrinth filled with mysticism. And tourists were forbidden to walk through his rooms without a guide: there was a danger of injury or getting lost.

Even after her death, women did not stop talking about the madness of Sarah Winchester, about the bizarre nature of women. But how, then, can explain Sarah's very healthy and noble deeds? She donated $ 2 million to build a hospital in Connecticut, for example. She also grew plums and apricots on forty hectares of land and sent them dry to European markets. Let's add here her extraordinary talent as an architect who created such a house.

House of Winchesters, its ominous appearance and unsolved mysteries could not help but attract the attention of creative people. The temptation was too great to capture their impressions in a novel or in a film. Therefore, it is not surprising that Stephen King wrote the script for the mini-series "The Scarlet Rose Mansion" and the film "The Haunting of Winchester House" was shot.

Island of the Dolls in Mexico

Island of the Dolls lies between the famous Hochimiko Canals, near Mexico City. This enchanted place not only terrifies the indigenous people - Mexicans, but also scares tourists who come here from all over the world out of curiosity and for the thrill. Despite the cute name of the island, it is by no means conducive to hospitality. Literally at every step you are greeted by twisted dolls hanging on every tree, on any building. You seem to have fallen into the atmosphere of the famous horror film "Children's Games" with your own eyes and do not even know how to get out of this damned place. Bobbleheads with empty eye sockets, crushed heads, torn off legs or arms make up a terrible "decoration" of the island. One gets the feeling that this is how our world will look after the apocalypse. The author of this creation, the creator of the Island of the Dolls, has long since rested in Bose. But until now, ordinary Mexicans, at the mention of the name of Julian Santana Barrera, noticeably turn pale and say prayers. This hermit fanatically collected broken dolls for fifty years in order to build an eerie gallery on the island. Once Barrera had a family, a decent job and did not stand out among others. Everything was decided by a tragic incident: one day, before his eyes, a little girl drowned in the canal. And after this event, the ghost of a dead child began to haunt him. To appease the spirit of the girl, Julian, having put an end to his former life, retired from this world with one goal: to create the Island of the Dolls. And I must say - he did it. But Barrera didn't stop there. As if an unclean force was leading Barrera, he thought of only one thing: how to increase the already huge collection of broken and ugly dolls. Julian lived in a hut, ate fish caught in the canal, grew vegetables and fruits. Sometimes my nephew would come and pick up the harvest in order to exchange them for dolls in the city.

The life of the hermit - "improviser" ended tragically: by a strange coincidence, he drowned in the same channel where the little girl died. Apparently, Barrera never managed to get along with her spirit ...

And Julian's nephew became the owner of the Island of the Dolls and earns a lot of money from his uncle's creepy collection. This place still scares everyone, and it is curious that none of the directors has yet tried to shoot a picture against its background ...

Paris catacombs

This unique structure consists of a network of underground tunnels and artificial caves located under the French capital. Since the end of the 18th century, the remains of almost six million people have been buried in the Parisian catacombs. They are said to be over 200 kilometers long. And they, according to local residents, are allegedly teeming with the ghosts of the dead. It all started with quarries. When the stone reserves came to an end by the end of the 10th century, it was decided to start underground mining. The first artificial caves adapted for their needs enterprising monks: they rebuilt wine cellars. With the light hand of the ministers of the church, tunnels began to be laid further, almost "under the feet" of Paris.

In the Middle Ages, in order to avoid the spread of the black plague, the dead were massively buried in the undergrounds of the capital. Later, for a reason unknown to us, but understandable for the French, they began to bury here famous people... The last refuge in the catacombs, for example, was found by the famous revolutionaries Robespierre and Danton, the scientist Pascal and the storyteller Perrault.

The Parisian catacombs have always been shrouded in dark secrets, ominous, from which the blood runs cold, stories. But this circumstance does not stop tourists who line up in long queues to wander along two underground passages (no more than two kilometers) and "feel" the smell of the past eras. By the way, it is considered bad form if you refuse, say, to visit an ossuary - a place of mass graves. Therefore, plucking up courage, tourists reluctantly come here to look at the underground "world" of the deceased with at least slightly closed eyes ... It's funny that during World War II, the top-secret bunker of the German army and the headquarters of the leaders of the Resistance movement were literally located side by side in the catacombs ... They were separated by only 500 meters of crossing ...

The theme of the Parisian catacombs turned out to be a tasty morsel for many masters of culture and art. Victor Hugo, for example, wrote his novel Les Miserables, and American director Tomm Cocker directed the horror film Catacombs.

Dracula's castle in Romania

This castle is located in a picturesque town Bran in Transylvania. Once in the Middle Ages, it served as a fortress for local merchants and a customs post. Castle of Count Dracula - a ruthless killer and vampire, whose image arose with a complete mixture of real historical facts and fiction, is a network of halls, corridors, numerous underground passages. One can easily get lost in it, and at the same time enter here unnoticed, thanks to its intricate and complex design. And in the courtyard of the castle there is a well, with which terrible and terrible events are associated. A secret passage was arranged here, through which Vlad Tepes, the ruler of Wallachia, was delivered for the comfort of peasant girls scared to death, as well as enemies for torture and execution. The count was extremely cruel and even loved to kill people for fun, he believed that taking baths from the blood of killed enemies is a worthy and "sweet" occupation for a real nobleman. The fear of Vlad the Impaler was so great that thieves and criminals simply fled from these places. As a sign that they will never return, on central square of the city, a golden bowl was set near the well. Every inhabitant used it for drinking, and no one even thought of stealing the treasure.

The ruthless ruler was killed in one of the wars. But even after his death, he left alone his loyal subjects. According to legend, due to the previously committed atrocities, Vlad Tepes turned into a vampire. They say that after the funeral, the body of the monster disappeared from the grave, and his ghost still walks in the castle. Thanks to Bram Stoker, he acquired a literary name - Count Dracula. And based on his novel, the director Francis Coppola shot the famous film, spectacularly telling about the life of a vampire.

Devil's Tower

A mysterious and eerie place is located in Wyoming, USA. It is called the Devil's Mountain, and local Indians guard this rock like the apple of their eye. They do not even allow tourists to visit it, considering the mountain a sacred place. They believe that the tower was created by the devil himself and any approach to the Devils Tower threatens with dire consequences. Indeed, the structure of the mountain does not at all speak of its natural origin. Ufologists, for example, claim that the Devil's Tower is a landing site for alien ships. But local Indians have a different opinion. According to a legend passed from one generation to another, seven girls were walking in the forest, and they were unexpectedly attacked by the devil, who took the guise of a bear. In fear, the children climbed a small stone and began to pray to their main deity. Their calls were heard: the stone turned into a gigantic mountain, which the devil could no longer climb.

The most incredible, sometimes dramatic events are associated with the Devil's Tower. Once parachutist George Hopkins decided, apparently, to enter the Guinness Book of Records and become famous all over the world. He decided to conquer the mountain from the air. Despite the stormy wind, he managed to land on a small area. There was no end to the parachutist's joy: he was already dreaming about the popularity of the first conqueror of Devil's Mountain. However, for some unknown and mysterious reasons, he became hostage to this truly enchanted place. For a week he could not be removed from the mountain. And at the end of his stay, he, to his horror, found himself among a huge number of rats. The unfortunate parachutist braced himself for the worst. But the climbers still managed to rescue him from captivity: scared to death, George Hopkins could not even utter a word ...

By the way, Devil's Mountain is featured in Steven Spielberg's film "Close Encounters of the Third Degree". It is noteworthy that in one of the episodes of the picture the main character builds a copy of it.

House of Horror in Amityville

A house in which ghosts live and which does not tolerate living people in its chambers. And it exists in nature: its location in the suburbs of New York, in Amityville. Here in June 1965, six people were killed - almost the entire family of the owner of the house, De Feo. Only the youngest, Ronald, survived. It was he who confessed to the cold-blooded murder of his family. During the trial, many were struck by the strange details of the criminal event. For example, none of the neighbors heard the rumble of a shotgun, all the victims lay face down, and the accused himself did not stop claiming that some Indian leader had forced him to kill his family.

In the Amityville house, mysterious and eerie events continued to take place. New owners George and Katie Lutz with their children knowing scary story that happened here, nevertheless settled within its walls. However, the courage and courage of the young couple soon began to melt like snow. In the house, as it turned out, the smell of decomposing meat emanated everywhere, doors and windows opened for no reason, at night the family was awakened by incomprehensible and frightening sounds. The owners of the house invited a priest to consecrate all the rooms. But he quickly retreated, explaining that he could not cope with the demons, which are very strong and invincible. And soon the little daughter Masi started talking about the new girlfriend Jody, with whom she talks and even plays. In fact, it was the ghost of the youngest daughter in the De Feo family. Her name was Jody ...

This nightmare lasted almost a month: the Lutz family left this damned house with great relief, so that they could then tell people about their experiences. Since then, this place has been bypassed by everyone. And the gloomy house, the ominous appearance of which already speaks of many secrets hidden here, was no longer inhabited. But he gave creative food for many filmmakers. For example, director Stuart Rosenberg directed The Amityville Horror.

Madame LaLaurie's mansion

Madame LaLaurie performed by Katie Bates

Photo frame from the series "American Horror Story"

The LaLaurie mansion in the so-called French quarter Vieux Carre, at 1140 Royal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, was built in the late 18th century, and the family of Dr. LaLaurie settled here in the early 19th century. The couple immediately won the favor of the local nobility. The doctor became a respected physician in the state of Louisiana, and his charming young wife Mary arranged wonderful evenings for old friends and new acquaintances, where they talked about art and culture, played classical music. Everything was decent and decorous, the reputation of the Lalori family was so high in society that no one even dared to cast a shadow on her. Thunder struck among clear sky... Madame LaLaurie turned out to be a real Russian Saltychikha. And her impeccable behavior in public was only a mask behind which a cruel and oppressive woman was hiding. Once, in a fit of anger, she chased a young servant, the latter could not resist on the balcony and fell from the third floor, crashing to death. This case alarmed the entire public: a trial took place, at which Madame LaLaurie was sentenced to a rather large fine of three hundred dollars and was banned from using the services of slaves. It would seem that the story ended there and justice was done. But it received an unexpected tragic continuation. Once in the house of Lalori, during their absence, there was a fire. The firefighters who arrived, extinguishing the raging fire, discovered a secret room where ten people were sitting: five of them were sitting in cages, three were chained in the wall, and two were lying tied on the floor. When the Lalori couple returned home, they were nearly torn apart by a crowd of angry people. Soon they urgently left the mansion and hid somewhere in Europe. And at the end of the 19th century, the builders of the house found under the floor the remains of twelve slaves stretched out on instruments of torture. According to local residents, they often see the ghost of a shackled black man in the mansion. Do not forget about her home and the spirit of Madame LaLaurie. Some townspeople claim that they even heard her screams ...

The image of Madame Delphine LaLaurie was used in the third season of the American Horror Story horror anthology, played by actress Katie Bates.

Lizzie Borden House

Christina Ricci as Lizzie Borden

Photo frame from the movie "Lizzie Borden took the ax"

This house is located in the small town of Fall River, Massachusetts (USA). It was here that the most mysterious murder of the 19th century took place, when, it would seem, all the evidence directly spoke of the guilt of one person - Lizzie Borden. Her fate is somewhat reminiscent of the story of Cinderella, though with some peculiarities. Father - Mr. Borden - was rich and stingy, the funeral home, which he owned, brought in considerable income. Stepmother Abby Darfi Gray was a real evil stepmother, but not from a fairy tale, but from real life. In fact, Lizzie did not have a happy childhood. In addition, I almost ruined my vulnerable and tender soul terrible case: the father, furious with the behavior of the pigeons - the favorites of his daughter, decapitated them with an ax ...

It all happened on August 4, 1892. Emmy's older sister went to stay with friends, Lizzie, the maid Bridget Sullivan and her stepmother remained in the house. When Mrs. Borden was washing the stairs, someone unknown crept up and hit her with an ax. And then he did it nineteen more times. Eleven hours later, the father of the family, who returned home, faced the same fate. The high-profile murder shook the entire district. The police took Lizzie Borden into custody, while the girl was surprisingly calm.

The Lizzie Borden case caused a huge resonance in respectable America. Everything said that the girl was to blame, she was facing, if not the death penalty, then life imprisonment was guaranteed. But events unfolded in such a way that the court was powerless over the eloquence of attorney George Robinson, the former governor of Massachusetts. It was he who at one time was involved in the appointment of judges. Lizzie Borden was acquitted, she and her sister received a decent parental fortune. It is known that she never married, had no children.

This beautiful, quiet and fabulous place like a magnet attracts people who do not know that soon each of them will be haunted by mystical horror. The Valley of the Headless stretches across the northwest of Canada along the South Nahan River. At the end of the 19th century, hunters for gold rushed here, which lay literally underfoot. The thirst for profit, get rich quick has captured the minds of people so much that they forgot about the warning of local residents - the Indians. And soon there was a panic among the gold prospectors. Anyone who entered the canyon lost his head - in the literal sense of the word. When the number of the headless dead comrades began to grow, many left the cursed valley in fear.

Since then, this place was notorious and whoever stepped on its land fell victim to unknown and sophisticated assassins. According to one of the versions, to which the Indians were inclined, it was a "Bigfoot", whose peace was disturbed by people. Others argued about an unknown tribe that guarded their wealth and admitted mere mortals to it.

In 1978, a group of six researchers led by Dr. Hank Mortimer, with the latest equipment, went to the Valley of the Headless and disappeared. The last message read: “Emptiness comes out of the rock. This is terrible!" The search was unsuccessful; only the decapitated body of one of the expedition members was found.

Today there are few volunteers who ventured to visit the Valley of the Headless. Some scientists explain this phenomenon by the existence parallel worlds, by the intervention of unknown dark forces, the nature of which they are not yet able to unravel. Eerie Valley, by the way, has not yet become a place of pilgrimage for filmmakers. Apparently, not without reason, everyone fears for their own heads ...

Mountain of the Dead, Sverdlovsk Region

Photo frame from the film "The Mystery of the Dyatlov Pass"

The Mansi people living in these remote regions call her Holat-Syakhyl. Terrible events took place here already in the 30s of the last century. First, a murdered woman with gouged eyes and a torn tongue was found on the outskirts of the mountain, and later they found the bodies of ten fugitive criminals, terribly disfigured, with grimaces of horror on their surviving faces. Investigations, of course, were not carried out; the investigators unanimously claimed that they had so crippled each other in a deadly fight.

The mystical and dark origin of the Mountains of the Dead was noticed only in 1959, when a group of experienced tourists led by Igor Dyatlov went on a hike in the Subpolar Urals. When they reached Mount Kholat-Syakhyl, they made a halt. And at night something inexplicable happened: all the tourists died under rather mysterious circumstances. They were looking for more than two weeks. When Dyatlov's group was found, a terrible picture appeared before the eyes of those who found the corpses. One got the impression that people in panic and horror fled from something unknown. Some of the tourists had broken ribs and punctured heads.

Until now, no one can explain the reason for the death of Igor Dyatlov's group. It seems unlikely that this will work out in the near future. Some of the researchers are looking for the causes of the tragedy in hostile aliens, while others believe that local shamans were involved in the case. However, many documentaries have been filmed on this topic, interpreting the death of tourists in their own way. And in 2013, Rennie Harlin's fantastic thriller The Mystery of the Dyatlov Pass was released, very freely, in the spirit of American traditions, interpreting this tragic story.

By its size, the Devil's Tower is several times larger than the pyramid of Cheops and from the side it resembles a man-made structure. Due to its unrealistic dimensions and unnaturally correct configuration, the rock has become the object of attention of many scientists, and the locals claim that it was Satan himself who built it.

5. Pyramids of Yonaguni, Japan

The mysterious underwater pyramids near the western Japanese island of Yonaguni cause a lot of controversy among modern archaeologists and surveyors. The main question is whether the structures are a natural phenomenon, or were they created by the hand of an ancient man.

In the course of numerous studies, it was found that the age of the Yonaguni pyramids is more than 10 thousand years. Therefore, if the Yonagun monuments created mysterious civilizations unknown to us, then the history of mankind should be rewritten.

The Nazca geoglyphs in Peru are one of the most mysterious places on the planet. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to ask the creators, scientists offer 2 main versions: some, leaning towards the cosmic theory of the origin of geoglyphs, believe that they are landmarks for alien ships, others argue that these are giant lunar calendars. In any case, the Nazca rock paintings are proof of the existence on the territory of modern Peru of an ancient and mysterious civilization that lived here long before the famous Incas and was distinguished high level development.

This proves that our ancestors also studied space bodies, their movement and kept track of time.
